Employment and Salary Trends for Virginia Photographers

Virginia is home to 1,120 salaried photographers averaging $32,500 per year, down from $41,020 in 2009, when the state was home to 1,220 photographers. It is important to note that many professionals in this field are self-employed, so it is safe to assume that the population of photographers in the state is much higher. These individuals typically earn more and enjoy greater employment growth as well. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the “Independent Artists, Writers, and Performers” ‘industry’ has the third highest concentration of employment for photographers and they earn an average of $47,180 per year.

Nationwide, the median pay for photographers is $30,490 per year. Employment for photographers is projected to grow three percent for the 2014-2024 decade, which is slower than the average for all occupations. At this rate, the industry is expected to add around 3,900 new jobs in the coming years. Overall growth will be limited because of the decreasing cost of digital cameras and the increasing number of amateur photographers and hobbyists, says the Bureau.

In addition, stock photographic services available online give individuals and businesses access to stock photographs for a fee or subscription, possibly dampening demand for photographers. Declines in the newspaper industry will reduce demand for news photographers to provide still images for print, says the Bureau. Employment of photographers in newspaper publishing is projected to decline a staggering 41 percent for the 2014-2024 decade, according to the BLS.

However, employment of self-employed photographers is projected to grow nine percent for the 2014-2024 decade. Projected growth, says the BLS, will be due to the demand for portrait photographers, which will persist as people continue to want new portraits. In addition, corporations will continue to require the services of commercial photographers to develop compelling advertisements to sell products.

The top paying states for photographers are:

    • District of Columbia ($66,410)
    • New York ($54,030)
    • California ($52,750)
    • Hawaii ($47,740)
    • New Mexico ($46,220)

The top paying industries for photographers are:

    • Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing ($76,090)
    • Medical and Diagnostic Laboratories ($69,230)
    • Motion Picture and Video Industries ($67,160)
    • Scientific Research and Development ($63,530)
    • Other Information Services ($61,090)

The industries with the highest levels of employment for photographers are:

    • Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services
    • Radio and Television Broadcasting
    • Newspaper, Periodical, Book, and Directory Publishers
    • Motion Picture and Video Industries
    • Other Personal Services

The Industries with the highest concentration of employment for photographers are:

    • Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services
    • Radio and Television Broadcasting
    • Independent Artists, Writers, and Performers
    • Newspaper, Periodical, Book, and Directory Publishers
    • Scenic and Sightseeing Transportation, Water

The states with the highest employment levels for photographers are California, New York, Florida, Texas, and Illinois.

While employment growth for photographers is projected to be slower than average overall, Virginia-based photographers can do a few things to increase their chances of finding employment. Consider checking into portrait studios, local publications, technology firms, schools, creative agencies, and design studios. And stick to major cities such as Virginia Beach—the state’s largest, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Arlington, and Richmond. Also worth exploring are Newport News, Alexandria, Hampton, Roanoke, and Portsmouth.

Awesome Animation Fact. Hayao Miyazaki wrote, directed, and drew the storyboards for his the Academy Award winning film for Best Animated Feature—Spirited Away (2001). So, Miyazaki essentially wrote the movie with drawings. When you watch the film, you’re seeing one man’s work and vision. The filmmaker is so influential and involved in the production that the New Yorker once called him “the auteur of anime.” –mental_floss

Online Dating Advice for Men – The Art of Charm #dating #fat

    #dating advice for men

    Online Dating Advice for Men

Below is some online dating advice for men that you likely won’t see anywhere else. It’s different from most online dating advice for men because it covers both techniques and mindsets that will help you succeed in online dating. Plus, there’s an exercise at the end that will deepen your understanding of what women are looking for online. It can help you truly master online dating.

Make women chase you through online dating

The world of online dating is filled with guys who are desperately seeking out any attractive girl. These guys provide no challenge to women and as a result women find them boring. So if you want to get a girl’s attention online and even get her chasing you, show you’re not like the others. Show her that you’re not willing to settle for any woman ; you’re out there looking for the right woma n. Show her that if a girl is going to win you over, she’s got to be special.

Now this starts before you even begin online dating. Before creating an online dating profile, take the time and figure out exactly what you want in a woman (her personality, hobbies, values, etc).

Once you know what you want in the women you meet online, add some of that information to your online dating profile. List the qualities you want in a woman as well as any “deal breakers ” that you won’t tolerate from women online. (When listing this information in your online dating profile you want to do it in a positive way. If you don’t want girls that flake, don’t say “I hate flakey girls” as that can make you sound bitter. Instead frame it positively, saying something like “I’m looking for a girl with integrity who keeps her word”).

When women see you know what you want and are actively filtering girls out, they’ll view you as a high-value guy. The women you meet online will begin to work for your attention because they know that in order to keep you interested a woman has got to be special.

When meeting a woman online, keep her off the pedestal

One of the most common online dating mistakes guys make is putting a girl on a pedestal. Just because the girl is attractive and mentioned a few things in her profile that really resonated with him he’ll start telling himself how incredible and perfect this girl is. This can cause a few problems with online dating. For one, he may find himself sending a long, rambling, and needy first message declaring how perfect they are for one another (which will creep her out). Or he’ll simply find himself wasting the day, checking his inbox to see if she replied to his message.

To avoid this common online dating trap there’s a few things you can do. Often, just realizing what’s happening and reminding yourself that you don’t actually know anything about her can be enough. If you’re still hung up on her, try ascribing some silly characteristics to her (maybe she has a weird laugh, or an unhealthy obsession with unicorns) just to humanize her.

But always keep in mind that the best thing you can do in these situations is to simply find other women. Whether its finding women online or elsewhere, the more women you meet the less likely you are to get hung up on that one girl.

How to send a first message in online dating

The first message in online dating is really much simpler than most guys make it out to be. Most guys think you need to send an amazing first message to get a woman’s attention. But that’s not the case. You just need to separate yourself from other guys and get a conversation rolling.

Follow these guidelines you’ll be sure to send good first message to girls online:

First, scan her online dating profile and see what jumps out at you. Then look to bring this up in your first message the girl. Showing you actually read her profile (most guys don’t), and that you’re interested in her and not just her looks will help your message stand out.

End your message in a way that compels her to respond. Believe it or not, a simple open ended question like “That’s a cool picture, where was it taken?” or “how’s your day been?” will work. If you want your first message to a girl to have a bit more kick to it, you can always offer her a challenge. For instance if she mentions she’s a dancer in her profile, you can challenge her with “you like to dance? Very well, I challenge you to a dance-off!”

Keep your first message to a girl online short. 2-3 sentences is fine. If you’re feeling talkative, maybe two paragraphs that size. Anything longer looks like you’re trying too hard.

Overall, keep the vibe fun, playful, and light. Just have fun and see if you can get a conversation going.

    Meeting up with women online

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the girls you meet online are going to move things forward for you. If you’re going to meet up with a woman you met online, more than likely you’re going to need to take charge and ask for the number/date yourself.

A good time to ask a girl you met online for her number (or a date) is on the 3rd or 4th message. Having a brief back-and-forth allows you to build attraction and familiarity and increases the odds she’ll say yes. It also shows that you require women to put in a bit of effort before you invite them out (showing that you’re a high-value, selective guy).

Learn more about online dating with a fake profile

If you want to learn more about online dating, a fun thing to do is to set up a fake profile. Get a random picture of an attractive woman, create and online dating profile for her, and watch what happens. You’ll get flooded with emails from guys who are interested.

Flipping through these emails can give you some great online dating advice for men. You can figure out what a good first message looks like, and what kind of messages to avoid. You can even take a look at some of the other guys’ profiles for ideas on how to improve your own.

This exercise will also give you a good insight into what it’s like for women to date online. By understanding a woman’s perspective and experience, you’ll have a better idea of what women are looking for. Then you’ll be able to show women exactly that.

They believe that creating art can help people cope with problems that contribute to emotional, mental and physical issues. According to the Health Professions Network, art therapists employ a combination of studio art, psychotherapy and counseling to guide their clients toward a healthier outlook on life ( ). Clients sculpt, sketch, paint and create other unique works of art during their sessions with a licensed art therapist.

    Education Requirements

People who wish to enter the art therapy field must first hold a bachelor’s degree. They then apply to a master’s degree program in art therapy. According to the American Art Therapy Association, prospective art therapy graduate students must submit a portfolio of their artwork in order to be admitted to an art therapy degree program ( ). They must also possess 18 semester hours of art studio courses and 12 semester hours of psychology courses. Art therapy degree programs typically last about two years.

Students enrolled in a graduate program for art therapists take classes related to psychotherapy, psychology, human development, ethics, patient assessment and other subjects related to the art therapy field. Graduates of a program typically earn a master’s degree in art therapy. They may also earn a master’s degree in counseling with a concentration in art therapy. Some art therapists return to school to earn a Ph.D. in art therapy.

    Certification Requirements

Art therapists are required to be certified by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB). After earning a master’s degree and fulfilling post-graduate art therapy experience requirements, new therapists are eligible to earn a credential to become a registered art therapist (ATR). Registered art therapists must successfully pass a written exam administered by the ATCB to become board certified (ATR – BC), which is a more advanced credential ( ).

    Work Environment

Art therapists work in schools, nursing homes, prisons, hospitals, recreation facilities, mental health hospitals and nonprofit agencies. They often work with other medical professionals to create a treatment plan for patients who may benefit from art therapy in addition to more traditional remedies.

An art therapist must have a master’s in art therapy and certification in order to practice in this field. An art therapy program combines psychology with art studio classes to prepare the prospective art therapist for their career. THIERRY HUET PHOTOGRAPHY T/A PICTURESQUEWANAKA BASED PHOTOGRGRAPHER, NEW ZEALAND landscape photography, art photography & image stock library
Born in Paris, France in 1960, I received an artistic education and was influenced and inspired by family members. Since I was a child, I have always loved arts & photography, the outdoors and traveling, so landscape photography really appealed. In 1985, I attended Art school in Gothenburg, Sweden, where I studied painting and photography for a year and put on exhibitions. During my travels, I always tried to capture on film my own postcard of the place, and after, often organized public slide shows, a great way to share my experiences & travels. I moved permanently to Wanaka ,New Zealand in 1993 and spent 10 years in the tourism industry working as a ski instructor in the winter and running my own white-water sledging business (Frogz Have More Fun) in the summer. In 2002, I sold that business and felt the time had come for me to become a professional photographer.

I am a member of PSNZ and have been selling my own landscape postcards through retailers in the South Island since 1995. I am also currently selling A4 Lake Wanaka calendars, framed and mounted photographs, and high resolution digital images on disc. Please contact me for more details about these products or if you need a picture with a little “je ne sais quoi” french touch.
All the “New Work gallery ” photographs are recent digital images.
    That includes;
    – landscape photography
    – fine art photography
    – nature photography, love flowers!

If I enjoy a lot Landscape photography, I am feeling inspired and having a great time giving a go to Art photography and create a new picture with adding effects to my photographs. All new images can be printed up to 20″x15″ or poster size.
Digital photography is a whole new world and fun I believe.

I now have a wide range & library of diverse New Zealand landscape images, and all sorts. I also specialize in commercial photography, website photography, advertising, events, real estate, architecture & occasionally wedding photography. Entering photo competitions & art exhibitions is something I find rewarding & challenging. Current photographic exhibition: “DIGITAL CREATURES” Little Gallery, Little Brown House, Little St, Wanaka

I’ve created this easy-to-navigate website so I can share my photography, my journeys, what my eye captures, and hopefully the image gallery will inspire you to travel, to come to visit our picturesque New Zealand, or, become a photographer.
