Plenty of Cupid Fish Tinders

Dear Dating Amalgamate,
The online dating world is only slightly less confusing than the regular one. While most individual sites are straightforward in what they want to accomplish, their approaches vary pretty wildly. Before you pick a site, it may be helpful to ask yourself what your dating style is. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you pick a dating site:

  • Are you more introverted or extroverted ?
  • Do you prefer to get to know people online or in person?
  • How much work do you want to put into meeting new people?
  • Are you more reserved talking to strangers, or do you engage with new people easily?
  • Do you want to go on a series of casual dates, or are you hoping for a long-term relationships?

None of these questions have a wrong answer and many of them overlap, but knowing your own preferences and personality can help you figure out which avenue you want to go down. Once you ve given it a bit of thought, there are a few routes you can take.

Get Right to the Point: Tinder and How About We

As crazy as it might sound, sometimes people like to go on dates and meet new people without hours of filling out forms and answering multiple choice questions. If this sounds like you, apps like Tinder and How About We are probably your speed.

How About We (Android /iOS /Web ): This service works on a very simple premise: dating people should involve, you know, going on dates. To use this service, you come up with date ideas that are then shared publicly with others along with a bit of information about you. There are very few questions to answer and you can get paired up with someone based on mutual interests without much fuss.

Who it s for: If you get to know people best by talking to them and sharing experiences, it s hard to get much more direct than How About We. You can get enough information to have a conversation without feeling like you re filling out your taxes. The obvious downside is that meeting people from the internet immediately without knowing much can potentially be dangerous. While online dating is far more mainstream now than it used to be, it s still important to know how to stay safe .

Tinder (Android /iOS ): If How About We has too much fluff for you, Tinder is even easier. The app requires you to log in via Facebook which, admittedly, is a pretty big risk. However, it can import and compare your various likes and interests to match you up with potential matches. You re then given a series of people you can either like or dismiss. Swipe left to pass on a potential suitor, swipe right to express interest. If you match up with someone who liked you, you can exchange messages.

Who it s for: Tinder s primary audience is people who want dead simple match-ups. Outside of tweaking your Facebook interests, there s very little you can do to add to your profile. While you don t get much criteria to go on at first, it also removes a lot of the clutter. No one can message you if you haven t liked them already. Combine the minimal features and the mutual approval requirement and 90% of the clutter of other dating sites is instantly removed.

Match a Little Smarter: Blendr and Plenty of Fish

Casual dating can be fun, but if you don t have much steering your matches, you could just be setting yourself up for a series of awkward and stressful experiences. This is why dating sites that put together matches with complex algorithms exist in the first place.

Blendr (Android /iOS /Web ): Blendr (not to be confused with the 3D modeling software of the same name) occupies a handy middle ground between the no-fluff apps in the previous section and more in-depth services like OKCupid. You can sign in via Facebook, add interests, fill out basic information and explore nearby matches.

Blendr also includes some unique features like highlighting how some of your matches are connected to your Facebook friends, up to a couple hops away. It also includes an anonymous chat feature that lets you start talking to someone immediately. With all the fun and fear that entails.

Who it s for: If you re relatively outgoing and want to browse quickly, Blendr allows you to connect with people on a whim without leaving you in the dark like Tinder or How About We. While you can add plenty of information to find better matches, it s not required.

Plenty of Fish (Android /iOS /Web ): Like Blendr, Plenty of Fish matches users more intelligently than simple mutual likes. Your profile can include a wider array of basic information. You can also browse matches by people who are nearby, or use Meet Me to quickly find a date. Like the simpler dating apps, if two people like each other, they ll receive a notification, so you get the best of both worlds.

Getting the Facts

Just about everyone knows that the legal drinking age throughout the United States is 21. But according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, almost 80% of high school students have tried alcohol.

Deciding whether to drink is a personal decision that we each eventually have to make. This article provides some information on alcohol, including how it affects your body, so you can make an educated choice.

What Is Alcohol?

Alcohol is created when grains, fruits, or vegetables are fermented. Fermentation is a process that uses yeast or bacteria to change the sugars in the food into alcohol. Fermentation is used to produce many necessary items everything from cheese to medications. Alcohol has different forms and can be used as a cleaner, an antiseptic, or a sedative.

So if alcohol is a natural product, why do teens need to be concerned about drinking it? When people drink alcohol, it’s absorbed into their bloodstream. From there, it affects the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), which controls virtually all body functions. Because experts now know that the human brain is still developing during our teens, scientists are researching the effects drinking alcohol can have on the teen brain.

How Does It Affect the Body?

Alcohol is a depressant. which means it slows the function of the central nervous system. Alcohol actually blocks some of the messages trying to get to the brain. This alters a person’s perceptions, emotions, movement, vision, and hearing.

In very small amounts, alcohol can help a person feel more relaxed or less anxious. More alcohol causes greater changes in the brain, resulting in intoxication. People who have overused alcohol may stagger, lose their coordination, and slur their speech. They will probably be confused and disoriented. Depending on the person, intoxication can make someone very friendly and talkative or very aggressive and angry. Reaction times are slowed dramatically which is why people are told not to drink and drive. People who are intoxicated may think they’re moving properly when they’re not. They may act totally out of character.

When large amounts of alcohol are consumed in a short period of time, alcohol poisoning can result. Alcohol poisoning is exactly what it sounds like the body has become poisoned by large amounts of alcohol. Violent vomiting is usually the first symptom of alcohol poisoning. Extreme sleepiness, unconsciousness, difficulty breathing, dangerously low blood sugar, seizures, and even death may result.

Why Do Teens Drink?

Experimentation with alcohol during the teen years is common. Some reasons that teens use alcohol and other drugs are:

  • curiosity
  • to feel good, reduce stress, and relax
  • to fit in
  • to feel older

From a very young age, kids see advertising messages showing beautiful people enjoying life and alcohol. And because many parents and other adults use alcohol socially having beer or wine with dinner, for example alcohol seems harmless to many teens.

Why Shouldn’t I Drink?

Although it’s illegal to buy alcohol in the United States until the age of 21, most teens can get access to it. It’s therefore up to you to make a decision about drinking. In addition to the possibility of becoming addicted, there are some downsides to drinking:

The punishment is severe. Teens who drink put themselves at risk for obvious problems with the law (it’s illegal; you can get arrested). Teens who drink are also more likely to get into fights and commit crimes than those who don’t.

People who drink regularly also often have problems with school. Drinking can damage a student’s ability to study well and get decent grades, as well as affect sports performance (the coordination thing).

You can look really stupid. The impression is that drinking is cool, but the nervous system changes that come from drinking alcohol can make people do stupid or embarrassing things, like throwing up or peeing on themselves. Drinking also gives people bad breath, and no one enjoys a hangover.

Alcohol puts your health at risk. Teens who drink are more likely to be sexually active and to have unsafe, unprotected sex. Resulting pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases can change or even end lives. The risk of injuring yourself, maybe even fatally, is higher when you’re under the influence, too. One half of all drowning deaths among teen guys are related to alcohol use. Use of alcohol greatly increases the chance that a teen will be involved in a car crash, homicide, or suicide.

Teen drinkers are more likely to get fat or have health problems, too. One study by the University of Washington found that people who regularly had five or more drinks in a row starting at age 13 were much more likely to be overweight or have high blood pressure by age 24 than their nondrinking peers. People who continue drinking heavily well into adulthood risk damaging their organs, such as the liver, heart, and brain.

How Can I Avoid Drinking?

If all your friends drink and you don’t want to, it can be hard to say “no, thanks.” No one wants to risk feeling rejected or left out. Different strategies for turning down alcohol work for different people. Some people find it helps to say no without giving an explanation, others think offering their reasons works better (“I’m not into drinking,” “I have a game tomorrow,” or “my uncle died from drinking,” for example).

If saying no to alcohol makes you feel uncomfortable in front of people you know, blame your parents or another adult for your refusal. Saying, “My parents are coming to pick me up soon,” “I already got in major trouble for drinking once, I can’t do it again,” or “my coach would kill me,” can make saying no a bit easier for some.

If you’re going to a party and you know there will be alcohol, plan your strategy in advance. You and a friend can develop a signal for when it’s time to leave, for example. You can also make sure that you have plans to do something besides just hanging out in someone’s basement drinking beer all night. Plan a trip to the movies, the mall, a concert, or a sports event. You might also organize your friends into a volleyball, bowling, or softball team any activity that gets you moving.

Girls or guys who have strong self-esteem are less likely to become problem drinkers than people with low self-esteem.

Where Can I Get Help?

If you think you have a drinking problem, get help as soon as possible. The best approach is to talk to an adult you trust. If you can’t approach your parents, talk to your doctor, school counselor, clergy member, aunt, or uncle. It can be hard for some people to talk to adults about these issues, but a supportive person in a position to help can refer students to a drug and alcohol counselor for evaluation and treatment.

In some states, this treatment is completely confidential. After assessing a teen’s problem, a counselor may recommend a brief stay in rehab or outpatient treatment. These treatment centers help a person gradually overcome the physical and psychological dependence on alcohol.

What If I’m Concerned About Someone Else’s Drinking?

Sometimes people live in homes where a parent or other family member drinks too much. This may make you angry, scared, and depressed. Many people can’t control their drinking without help. This doesn’t mean that they love or care about you any less. Alcoholism is an illness that needs to be treated just like other illnesses.

People with drinking problems can’t stop drinking until they are ready to admit they have a problem and get help. This can leave family members and loved ones feeling helpless. The good news is there are many places to turn for help: a supportive adult, such as your guidance counselor, or a relative or older sibling will understand what you’re going through. Also, professional organizations like Alateen can help.

If you have a friend whose drinking concerns you, make sure he or she stays safe. Don’t let your friend drink and drive, for example. If you can, try to keep friends who have been drinking from doing anything dangerous, such as trying to walk home at night alone or starting a fight. And protect yourself, too. Don’t get in a car with someone who’s been drinking, even if that person is your ride home. Ask a sober adult to drive you instead or call a cab.

Everyone makes decisions about whether to drink and how much even adults. It’s possible to enjoy a party or other event just as much, if not more so, when you don’t drink. And with your central nervous system working as it’s supposed to, you’ll remember more about the great time you had!

Which Catholic (or Other) Dating Website Is Right for Me?

by Jason King, Chairman, Theology Department. St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA

For Catholics, the advantage of these general dating sites is that they provide a large pool of potential matches.

The United States has over 40 million people registered on over 1,500 online dating sites. These numbers are a bit overwhelming, so it is helpful to go over sites that might be most useful to Catholics. There are two basic types: General Dating Sites that have large numbers of people and those that are specifically Catholic Dating Sites.

General Dating Sites

Match.com typifies a general dating site. You begin by setting up a profile. Match.com asks a series of questions about you, your interests, lifestyle and background and values. At the end of the questions, Match.com encourages you to post a picture of yourself to generate greater interest in your profile. Once your profile is set up, you can search by age, interests, zip code, gender, or even key words. This searching ability is necessary as Match.com has more than 20 million users. (Its already high number of users was increased in 2010 when it absorbed Yahoo! Personals.)

If you worry about being able to sort through these numbers yourself, you can use the Match.com sister site, Chemistry.com. Chemistry.com has you take a personality test and then uses this information to suggest people who would be a good match, ideally for long term relationships. Also, Match.com has started organizing and sponsoring events and enables its users to sign up for them through their new feature called the “The Stir.” The site charges around $40 a month for these services, more for a month-to-month contract and less for a six month contract.

eHarmony is another large dating site, also around 20 million users, and focuses on people who are interested in marital relationships. To set up a profile on eHarmony, you take a personality questionnaire consisting of over 400 questions. Your answers are analyzed by eHarmony’s “patented Compatibility Matching System” that uses personality traits to match individuals. This process eliminates those interested in casual dating and attracts those who are looking for serious relationships. Some believe that this is the reason eHarmony is one of the few online dating sites that has more women than men. eHarmony’s uniqueness and popularity are reflected in its approximately $50 a month cost.

While there are other general dating sites, Match.com and eHarmony are the most prominent. Other general sites operate in a similar manner but typically have some features that distinguish them from these two goliaths. The best examples are the totally ad-supported site PlentyOfFish (POF.com) that has no monthly fees and Zoosk that works through Facebook and other social networking sites. These sites have around 10 million users each.

These sites can be useful for Catholic for a number of reasons. First, they provide a large pool of potential matches and they all have a large number of Catholics present on them. Second, they all h

ave ways of indicating how important your faith is to you and matching you with people based on this characteristic. The limitation is that it s up to you to indicate how important your faith is and what values you hold most important. You must take the initiative in attending to those whose faith and morals seem compatible. In short, these sites have lots of people and many useful tools for matching, but it s your responsibility to make your faith a key component of these matches.

Catholic Dating Sites

Catholic Dating Sites have opposite strengths and weaknesses. On the one hand, they make faith and morals central to the process of matching. They facilitate both talking and learning about the faith. Their weakness is that they have smaller numbers of users.

Catholic Dating Sites all function similarly to the General Dating Sites with profiles, search options, and messaging systems. They supplement helping people find matches by providing articles and advice columns about the Catholic faith. Finally, they all charge around $20 a month, lower if you sign up for six months. Catholicmatch and Catholicmingle are two of the more prominent sites.

Catholicmatch is run by Acolyte, LLC (whose founder is a Catholic) and seems to be the largest site with approximately 200,000 users. Its perspective is expressed through its seven “Do you agree with the Catholic Church’s teaching on. ” questions that everyone must answer when they set up their profile. (These questions focus on the Eucharist, premarital sex, contraception, life issues, papal infallibility, Mary, and holy orders.) These questions can be answered by agreeing, slightly agreeing, or not agreeing, and the answers are used to find matches.

Catholicmingle is for a broad Catholic audience. It seeks to bring together “like minded Catholic singles” and makes “you feel comfortable expressing yourself as both a Catholic and a single.” Catholicmingle has over 100,000 users. It is run by SparkNetworks, which competes with general dating sites by operating a consortium of niche sites that includes BlackSingles, ChristianMingle, and, its most famous site, JDate, for Jews.

The one site that is slightly different is AveMariaSingles. It focuses on a very specific Catholic audience. The website “pledges to offer a service solely dedicated to helping faithful, practicing Catholics find their future spouse and help them become a better follower of Christ.” The site is for Catholics who are able to marry in the Church and opposed to using contraception. Members have discerned a vocation to sacramental marriage but have not yet found the right person. AveMariaSingles offers a slightly different payment plan: a one time fee of over $150 that allows permanent access to the site. The result of this approach is a highly active membership that is just over 10,000 people.

While this list of sites is not exhaustive, it should give you a sense of the kind of sites that are available as well as their popularity and usefulness.

Note that coupons and promotional deals for some of these websites, and others, are available at CatholicDatingSites.net.

Tag Me A Date: Wrestling Meets Online Dating

No longer do we live in a world where a common expression you hear is We met at a bar , when you find out how a couple got together. For gay and straight people, in and out of Manhattan, the new normal happens to be online dating. Whether you are online looking for companionship, friendship or just a one night stand, something that you hope for in the person you are talking to is to find something of interest that can spark a conversation and gets things going. But what happens when there is a website where everyone on it has one common interest?

Bring in Tagmeadate.com . a website devoted to finding people love who have a fascination and admiration for professional wrestling. Seeing as the WWE has been popular for decades upon decades, more recently with the wildly popular E! series Total Divas , it makes sense that something of this nature would come along. But even with how popular this type of sport has been, can it really find an audience when it comes to online dating? Manhattan Digest sits down with CEO and founder Steven Glenwick to find that out.

So how did you come up with the name Tag Me A Date?

I have been a wrestling fan my entire life. Wrestling fans are a cult-like bunch, if you will. My last girlfriend, now my wife; when we first met, I needed to find out if she was a fan of professional wrestling. It is such a huge part of my life and I wanted to be able to share that with someone. When I did ask her about wrestling she rattled off the entire roster and that’s when I knew I would marry this woman. Fast forward four years and we are married with two children. I came up with the concept of a dating site for wrestling fans but it was my Director of Operations Christopher Witcher that came up with the tag line, which is: “Wrestling night just became date night!” It instantly clicked! We needed a name and tag line that jumps out and states what it is but also targets a specific market.

Overall, what is the concept of this site?

The basic concept of this site is to connect people that share a similar passion of professional wrestling. I, along with the rest of my employees, have been life-long wrestling fans. This is our main passion and we are quite proud of that! I’ve been fortunate enough to meet the woman that would later be my wife, and learn on the first date that she was a wrestling fan. I want the same thing for all single wrestling fans. How great would it be to find someone that shares that very same passion?

Do you think there is enough of a niche audience to combine the love of professional wrestling with actual love?

Professional wrestling is a multi-billion dollar industry with millions upon millions of fans. We feel this is something wrestling fans have been waiting for, for a long time. One of the most featured questions concerning this idea is; “How come this has not been done before?” That is music to my ears as I contemplated that very question as I came to the very notion of doing a dating site for wrestling fans. Wrestling fans are a very loyal bunch and we want to show an appreciation for every one of them. Wrestling fans are people at the end of the day and many people want to find their significant other.

What current male and female pro wrestler do you think your users would most like to take on a date and why?

As far as what current male wrestler users would want to take on a date, I would say the answer may be John Cena. However, lately it seems that Roman Reigns has caught many eyes. As far as current female wrestlers, I would have to go with AJ Lee. She is the definition of what a diva should be but she is also very relatable, and of course cute as a button.

Same question only least likely now. Hehe.

The least likely male wrestler our users would want to take on a date might be a harder question. I’d have to put The Wyatt family right up there. However, based on the out-pouring of fans about the end of the Undertaker’s streak, including me, I might have to go with Brock Lesnar. The least likely female wrestler our users would want to take on a date would probably be Summer Rae, because she really doesn’t come off very likeable.

Dating sites usually have a ton of Q A s given so that users can describe themselves in a unique way. What are yours?

What makes our site different from the rest is that it mostly centers on wrestling-related questions. Our Q A is much shorter and to the point and removed are many questions we feel are redundant, petty, and downright too personal that many other sites do. Our site will allow people to find matches based on questions such as favorite wrestler, favorite manager, and favorite tag team. We also provide space for users to talk about what drove them to wrestling and to discuss the experiences of any live events they may have been to. Also, we found that many other sites have questionnaires that run way too long and we want to cut out unnecessary questions and get down to it. You don’t want to feel like you’ve written your College thesis by the time you’re done.

Is your site gay friendly or is it just for straight people?

Our site does not discriminate in any way. We offer people the ability to find people, whether they are the opposite sex or the same sex. Our goal is to make sure wrestling fans find their tag team soul mates and get to share their passion for wrestling with another. Fans’ happiness is much more important than worrying about one’s sexual orientation.

Other sites like match.comare offering in person experiences for their users such as cooking classes, bowling matches, etc. Does your website plan on doing the same?

Great question…This is so new so the best way to answer this question would be this. I without question want to hold social gatherings to help people meet. That is the whole goal of this site. I want wrestling fans to find wrestling fans through love. I want TagMeADate to be so big that I can hold events where people meet and watch a pay-per-view event and such. Time will tell. We need the support of all the single wrestling fans out there. If and when we become a success, there is nothing off the table! As they say in the wrestling world…“never say never”

What are you hoping the users get the most out of on this site?

As I mentioned earlier, our main goal is to help wrestling fans meet other wrestling fans that they can connect with on an emotional level, leading to relationships. The ultimate goal of any dating site is, or at least should be, that very notion. Many sites tout the success rate of their users when it comes to relationships and we plan on doing the same. We are definitely the most innovative, dynamic, and revolutionary dating site out there.

Being that this is still a new site what are you hopeful for as it continues to blossom?

Right now we just want to get the word out there. Our statistics show that there are many single wrestling fans out there, both male and female. Wrestling fans, like people in general, deserve to find happiness. Meeting someone else who shares that very same passion for wrestling is every single wrestling fans’ dream. We are offering people that very platform and are extremely proud of that.

Any specials you have for new users who sign up this month?

Currently we have extended our pre- registration, which now ends on October 14 th. If you sign up before then, we will give you the first three months free. Because we are launching live on the 14 th. we will provide the service free until Feb 1 st .

Every customer that signs up after October 14 th. we will still be providing them the first month free as well.

We ask all our fans to keep an ear out because you never know when another promotion will pop up. We will have a mailing list option on the web site. Everyone should opt in to get emails. If a new promotion is coming that’s where you will find out about it first.

My mother has been residing at Terrace View for nearly twelve years. She is the longest resident to date and though she has a debilitating disease and cannot do anything for herself any longer, I can wholeheartedly state that had she not been in Terrace View she would not be alive today!I have watched the place go from good to phenomenal primarily due to the former Administrator Brendan Dahl. It has been a beautiful transformation and all the staff are kind and caring. The Social Worker, Laura, works tirelessly to do everything to ensure the residents needs are met. Sally, the previous Director of Nursing to Jessica who was recently promoted from receptionist and the wonderful nurses, my mother’s doctor, Dr. Houshar and CNA’s have truly made the difference in my mother and our families life! MAJOR THANKS TO YOU ALL and EVERYTHING YOU DO!!

My grandmother spent some time in this facility and was treated like family by the staff and nurses alike. I experienced nothing but the utmost customer service every time we were in visit her and she only had positive things to say about her stay here. The facility hosted a luau while she was there and she had a great time getting outside, watching the hula dancers, mingling and taking photos with the other guests and staff. Terrace View is a great, 5-star facility that provides fabulous care for your loved ones. I wouldn’t recommend any other facility for your friends or family based on my experience there and compared to our experiences with other facilities.

Great healthcare facility! I had a family member stay for a few weeks and my family and I were at ease because we knew my family member was in great hands. The staff is great with the patients and residents, especially the nurses. I’m very impressed that the staff took the time to listen to our concerns and did their best to reassure us they were going to do the best they can. They did an exceptional job helping my family and I. Rehab staff, especially physical therapy, are top notch!

I was so happy with the care my father received here, they were always so kind to him and were prompt when he used the call button when he needed assistance getting to the restroom. I could leave him when I had to go home and not worry about what kind of care he’d be getting. The aides, nurses, doctors, physical therapists, just everybody was fantastic and seemed to really care about the patients. I never saw anybody on this staff be anything but caring and gentle with every single patient here, and I was here a lot and had multiple opportunities to observe the staff in action. Isn’t that the kind of place that is almost impossible to find in this day and age? We tried another place one time and I took him out the very same day. You can absolutely trust that your loved one will be well taken care of here. Everybody actually came and hugged him goodbye as we were leaving and that gesture really touched my heart, and his as well! You won’t find a finer facility than this one believe me, cause I’m really picky about who I trust my father with, and these guys renewed my faith in these types of facilities especially after our bad experience. I just want to make sure they know their efforts didn’t go unnoticed! My father also said the food was great: except the beans he won’t eat them! Thank you Terrace View Care Center for everything you did to try and make my father’s stay a comfortable one, you’ll never know just how much that really meant to us, his family, and of course most importantly him!

My mother has been here 4 times in the last 2 years. I wouldn’t have her be at any other place. The people here are extremely caring. The therapists are incredible. My mom had a stroke a year ago and she is 95% recovered. I believe it is due to the great care that she received from everyone here, from the cleaning crew all the way to the top. Everyone knew her by name and when I go to visit other people they all ask about her. I recommend Terrace View to anyone who needs to have rehabilitation in order to gain back their strength.

My mom had a fall at her board and care that resulted in her needing short-term rehab to help her steady her gait. We chose Terrace View because of their 5-star rating on Medicare.gov and because of doctor recommendation. My mom was a resident at Terrace View for about a month. In that month they provided therapy to help strengthen her body so she would have lower risk of falls. The entire staff was friendly and treated my mom as if she were their own family member. The admissions staff was very helpful in getting my mother in the building and helping us with knowing what to expect. The nursing staff was very attentive and caring with all of her needs. The rehab staff made sure she was working to her full potential and made it so that she could continue to live at her board and care facility. They made therapy fun for my mother. My mom is a fairly antisocial person who keeps to herself, but the activities at this facility made sure she interacted with other patients and had a great time. The social worker helped us to make sure my mom discharged in time and we got her back to the board and care before she lost her place. Thank you to Terrace View for all they did for my mom I am so grateful for the care they provided my mom!

My mother has been a resident of Terrace View for over five years. The staff treat all of us as if we are family. They are quick to catch medical conditions and have them treated. Unlike many nursing homes Terrace View has quite a few long-term staff who have worked here all the years my mother has lived here, which is quite comforting for the long-term residents. Every effort has been made for her comfort while she has lived here. The facility goes out of their way to make family members comfortable and welcome, including the annual luau, formal Thanksgiving dinner, Dickens carolers, Halloween night, 4th of July bar-b- que, and much more

Its a whole different story when you need help for your own mother. I “thought” I knew what was needed but, discovered that I needed guidance on parts of the rehab process. I own and operate a business that helps seniors and their family find options/money for their loved ones. That means when MY mother was needing to reside in a facility after her hip replacement I called on the knowledge and views of seasoned professionals in the know. Many families do not know that they have the choice to request their desired location for the most important part after surgery. The top recommendation over and over was Terrace View. My mother’s stay was above and beyond the call of duty. I have known the administrator for years. He is known in the industry as a perfectionist. The director of Nursing makes sure that every person is detailed and able to carry out tasks efficiently. Don’t let the youthful appearance of the Community Relations Directors fool you. They are very knowledgeable. They are happy to use email/phone/fax to keep things moving along. We had the luxury of visiting my mother multiple times a day and I saw everything. Family is welcome with open arms. My mother got to experience multiple visits by her grandchildren who were delighted with the hot chocolate machine in the lobby and a patio to have pizza with their grandmother. My mother’s caregivers were caring, gentle, and so soothing to my mother when she was in pain. The nights were hard because of the pain and her night caregivers comforted her and took care of every request when she was uncomfortable. I NEVER saw my mother wait for extended time for her pain medications or help to the restroom. The caregivers use technology to pass messages on headsets to request help when needed. Don’t forget to check in with the Director of Services Services who is seasoned on care options in the community. I cannot recommend Terrace View enough. When my clients ask for a suggestion, I tell them that the best doctor is Dr. Mayo in Placentia and Terrace View is the only place you would want to partner with when you need a place for your loved one after their surgery or recuperation.

Just checked my mother-in-law last night for rehab following a total knee replacement.
Very clean place and smiling, friendly staff. The intake nurses are very thorough and know their stuff, and I am more critical than most because I am an RN. Even though we did not arrive until about 8 pm, the place was bustling with activity, cleaning, serving snacks, and caring for patients. I can’t comment on the rehab yet, but will do an update in a couple weeks. First impressions are very good!

My mother was in this facility for rehabilitation after she broke her hip. The care was outstanding in every way. The care center was clean and pleasant. The staff was friendly and took excellent care of my mother. Everyone from the housekeeping staff to the therapists to the nurses were wonderful. I would receive calls on a regular basis regarding any change in my mother’s care plan or medication. I can’t recommend Terrace View enough!

I tested out six different online dating profile pictures – can you guess which one got me a date? Mirror Online #free #internet #dating #sites

I tested out six different online dating profile pictures – can you guess which one got me a date?

    Looking for love: Siobhan McNally

This is the busiest time of year for the internet dating industry, as singletons try to find a date in time for Valentine’s Day.

A recent study revealed that the right photo will help you land you the right man so single mum and Your Life columnist Siobhan McNally, 44, decided to test out the look of love..

I based my six “fake” profiles in different locations so I wouldn’t get too much of a crossover on the search criteria, but I used the same personal profile each time, only changing the type of person I was looking for according to my picture.

After two weeks, I then signed back into my six usernames to see how many men had viewed each one and, more importantly, messaged me.

To give me even more feedback, I then asked professional dating coaches Jo Hemmings and Peter Spalton to look at my profiles and explain which ones would be the most successful and why.

    My profile blurb:

My self-summary: I’m a 44-year-old working mum to one little schoolgirl.

What I’m doing with my life. Filling it with good friends, family… and cake.

I’m really good at. Seeing the funny side of things.

The first things people usually notice about me. A smile. Although I think they probably hear me first.

I spend a lot of time thinking about. How to squeeze a week’s worth of life into a day.

The six things I could never do without. My daughter, my friends, my kitchen, my i-gadgets, my music, and my hairdresser.

On a typical Friday night I am. Cooking, dancing in the kitchen, opening wine and inviting people over.

Favourite books, movies, shows, music, and food. Historical novels. Thriller and crime movies. Unashamedly popular musicals. Big band and 1940s music. And any food with enough chilli to make me go deaf.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit. I think I may have been wrong on a few occasions.

    Expert Opinion:

Expert opinion: “This is a fun profile, quirky but not weird,” says Peter, “although maybe I’d avoid listing Big Band music if you don’t want to attract so many oldies.”

Jo agrees: “Frankly it’s the pictures that really matter, but this is a fun profile with a good line in self-deprecation.”

    And so to the profiles.

looking for someone to get into my drawers. Fnarr

Result. I was quite impressed with the 10 messages I received, considering I’d kept all my clothes on in the picture. Many were of the short, “Hi there” type, like forming a whole sentence would be just too much effort, but none stood out as particularly gruesome.

One poor bloke took the drawers pun at face value and told me (cue geek voice): “I’m very handy at opening jammed drawers in the office
    – I keep a toolkit for just such emergencies.”

Expert opinion. “Are you in the girl scouts?” asks Peter, “but it’s a cute photo.” While Jo says: “Touch of the air stewardess about this one
    – would probably appeal to a few business types who see the humour in the picture.”

    Username: PARTY GIRL

looking for someone who can keep it up all night (dancing, that is)

Result. “I love a Nottingham lass,” read one message from a bloke who looked like a rave reject from the 90s. Two very young men pleaded with me to be my toyboys, and are now filed under, “To be opened at a later date – maybe 2040”.

Expert opinion. “You definitely look like the good-time girl here and would probably attract younger men, or those just wanting sex. It might intimidate the shyer types though.” Peter gets straight to the point: “You look a bit hammered. And it’s never a good idea to have someone’s arm around you who’s cropped out of shot.”

looking for someone who prefers a run to propping up the bar at the Running Horse

Result. Not unlike with the cat lady picture, the quality of my five messages was poor. I reckon you could post a picture of a goat online, and you’ll get at least five declarations of love from complete mentalists.

Again, the Zoosk survey was bang on the money when it advised women to avoid having their picture taken outside. The light’s often bad and you don’t look your best, especially in green pedal pushers. What was I thinking?

Expert opinion. “It’s not a very flattering shot,” agrees Peter. “Well,” says Jo, “no make-up of course, but then who looks their best when they’ve just been for a run? It might attract a few wannabe sporty types, or appeal to older guys.”

looking for someone who prefers Factor 15 to X Factor

    Views. 153 visitors

    Messages. 19 messages

Result. Along with a few “phwoars” from naked male torsos, I also got emails from some cute blokes.

One in particular tickled me: “Hello I’m applying for the beach bum role. I’ve never applied for a role with a bum in it, can you tell me about the benefits?” wrote Simon, 42, London. I like a funny guy, so I replied to Simon with more details about this very rewarding position. We met in a posh London hotel for a drink, and he made me laugh so much, I kept choking on the bar snacks. Sadly we weren’t meant for each other, but he was a top bloke.

Expert opinion. “This is the classic shot all men will go for, although I would avoid wearing sunglasses,” says Peter. While Jo says: “I like this one – it’s revealing without being too showy. My guess is you’ll get approached by fairly decent guys who are comfortable in themselves.”

looking for someone who knows the difference between Top Cat and Bagpuss

Result. Just as Zoosk had predicted, I only got a few responses from my cat lady picture, and those ranged from the deluded to the downright dangerous, although one chap did say my pussy was adorable.

If that wasn’t depressing enough, one of my messages also came with a warning from the moderator that the sender may be running a scam.

One of the unintended results from working six different profiles is you get to spot the dodgy ones quickly. Men without profile pictures are obvious giveaways, and the usual excuse is they can’t upload their photos. Avoid like the plague – and never message them from outside the website.

Expert opinion. “Ah,” says Jo. “Pics of cats and women are not usually recommended. This will get a limited response, and they’ll be a quirky bunch.” “Yes,” agrees Peter, “you do look a bit strange”.

looking for someone who knows the difference between Vin Diesel and vin de table

Result. This got the best response – most were good quality messages from normal-looking blokes. And one man made me laugh when he wrote: “You seem a bit classy to have Gloucester down as your location.” Oops.

I went a bit gooey over the message from a very gorgeous Rob, 38, who flattered me with: “Please don’t tell me you drink table wine,” but he’s a bit spiritual for me and probably lives in a yurt.

Expert opinion. “This is a good picture – it’s full-length and you look relaxed. Yes, you’re drinking but in a nice venue with flattering lighting,” says Peter. “This type of photo will get the greatest response,” agrees Jo. “Sexy and sophisticated with a glimpse of leg. Probably will also attract more intelligent types too.”

So what is the best look for finding love?

I only met one bloke after this particular test, but if I’d been in the right place, like Gloucester, I’d have needed a bar with a revolving door for all my dates. The overall standard of men responding was pretty high – and certainly younger than the types I normally get. The results prove that men are indeed simple creatures, and in the end, the online dating sites reflect real life. Sweaty running gear only turns heads for the wrong reasons, so fake it, flaunt it… and get a good lighting assistant.
