Tips for Safe and Healthy Online Dating

Chatting with a new Valentine over coffee: old school. Dealing with awkward first-date giggles at an Applebee’s: What is this, 1998? These days, many of us are getting romantic through virtual winks and private messages, or by simply perusing a prospective match’s age, sex, location, weight, height, self summary, favorite movies, and leisure activities through his or her dating profile. Online dating has become so popular that it was how nearly 25 million people searched for love in just one month of 2011, according to a study in the journal Psychological Science in the Public Interest .

But if the nonstop drama of Manti Te’o and the tales of online exes-turned-murders have taught us anything, it’s that you’ve got to be safe when dating online. Here’s how:

Don’t post contact information. “You need to own your online presence,” says Michael Kaiser, executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance. “Empower yourself to control what you share online.” While engaging in multiple virtual platforms can make you feel like Master of the Internet, it can also leave you vulnerable. “There’s a difference between being cyber savvy and cyber secure,” Kaiser says.

Even if you’ve omitted your phone number, address, and even your personal email address in your dating profile, could it be found on another social media account? Up your security settings across the board, and be aware of apps like Foursquare and Instagram that allow you to post your specific location. If someone is impressed with your dating profile, searches your name on Facebook to find your number, and then sees that you checked into a specific pizza place five minutes ago, your virtual security walls have crumbled.

Watch for red flags. Start with the profile picture. Dazzled by your virtual beau’s perfect teeth and glistening eyes? And don’t even get us started on that bathing suit photo. Hate to burst your bubble, but he may be too good to be true. It’s not uncommon for folks to snatch photos of models, celebrities, or just regular people and post them as their own. If you’re suspicious, try a reverse image search via Google Images to see if the photos are posted elsewhere. “Even if they’re not trying to deceive and are maybe just trying to be funny, you got to think: For whatever reason, that person is not being honest about themselves,” says Garth Bruen, security fellow of the Digital Citizens Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-based coalition that promotes Internet safety.

If you verify the picture and get to talking, does he ask for money? Is he living or traveling abroad and asking you to send along a package to a friend in the states? If so, you’re likely being prepped for a scam. And while these clues may seem obvious, is it that unusual to do a favor for someone you like? In those early stages of romance, “you want to be accommodating and pleasing to the other person,” says Bruen. “You want to give of yourself with the expectation that you’re going to get something back.”

Match.com lists other signs to watch out for, including excessive grammar and spelling errors, talks of “destiny” and “fate,” and asking for your address so he can send you flowers or gifts.

Play detective. To gauge their honesty, “ask them a question, and then later ask them the same question in a different way,” says Bruen, who suggests asking where the person went to high school. Similarly, be keen to stories that don’t quite add up, like if she has one job today and another job a week from now. You’re looking for a “string of integrity,” Kaiser says, which is easier to feel out when you’re sharing dinner in person rather than exchanging emails.

You can always use Google to see what you can find out about this person, and you can even get a background check through a private investigator or various online services. But Kaiser warns that a clean background check could lead to a false sense of security. “Background checks only show stuff that they had been caught for,” he says. “If someone is a serial stalker but has never been caught or arrested, a background check won’t tell you that.”

Set your expectations. What do you want to get out of all this? Are you looking to meet someone and build a serious relationship—even get married? More interested in a casual fling? Think about what you expect from online dating, and keep that in mind as you engage with possible matches, Bruen suggests. If you want something serious but your beau continually keeps his distance and avoids meeting up, that’s a problem. “In some cases, that person is trying to prep you for a scam,” Bruen says. “In other cases, it’s just an unrealistic, insecure person who is never going to commit to you.”

Trust your intuition. At the end of the day, online dating isn’t that different from offline dating. There are creeps and spammers both on the Web and in real life, and there are good guys, too, Kaiser says. If something feels off, like the pacing, vibe, or language—it probably is. And if you feel like you’re in trouble, you probably are. “If they’re getting harassing texts, emails, or feel like someone is following them, they should seek help as soon as possible,” Kaiser says. Most dating sites have some sort of “report abuse” function, which folks should definitely use if they feel they need to. Beyond that, remember that “stalking is serious and illegal in all 50 states and the District of Columbia,” he says, so don’t hesitate to contact the police.

Meet up safely. If you think you’ve found a good egg and the two of you want to meet up—great. Choose a public place and drive yourself, or plan your own transportation. Don’t get stuck in a situation where you’re relying on a virtual stranger to get you home. Tell friends where you’re going and when you expect to be home, and even consider bringing someone along. A buddy could, say, wait at the bar while you start your date and wait for your signal before leaving. “There’s no shame in protecting yourself, and no one should be embarrassed,” Kaiser says. “If the date is a good, caring person, he’ll say, ‘Hey, smart for you.'”

How to Stay Safe While Dating

Use these tips to stay safe when you’re dating online. Peter Dazeley/Getty Images

While I ate my dinner, she drank hers — then refused to leave. And, according to her, why should she? My acquaintance of 12 hours bizarrely insisted that we were living together. The situation felt menacing — would I find a rabbit stew boiling on the stove? — so I summoned my next-door neighbor, a woman, for help. The two of us spent 45 minutes coaxing my surprise head case to leave, but it took a threat to call the police to finally get her out the door.

Does it jar you to find a man writing about dating safety? Don’t let it. As my fatal attraction to that mad mermaid proved, scary situations can pop up for anyone in the dating world — female or male, online or not. That’s why everyone who is part of that world must take some basic steps to ensure his or her physical safety. At the very least, consider adopting the approaches below; all of them draw on my 12 years of recent online dating experience .

1. Gentlemen first. When you’ve exchanged emails with a prospect and you feel it’s time to furnish phone numbers, the man should offer his first. If he doesn’t, the woman should ask him to do so. I can’t think of any good reason why a legitimately eligible man would withhold his digits; if he does, that’s ample cause to feel unsafe. Give the dude a pass.

2. Pick a safe spot for your first date. A busy daytime cafe is ideal. There isn’t much privacy, but you’ll be grateful for the presence of others if an unpleasant situation develops. If your date refuses to meet at a cafe or insists on a less public place, simply move on.

3. Know when to bail. I once had a coffee date with a woman who grew increasingly angry — and vocal — over her mistreatment by an ex-boyfriend. When she turned her attack on me, I got up and left — and was thankful for an audience to witness my exit.

4. Call for backup, Part 1. If a coffee date shows up with a bad attitude. a bad temper or a foul mouth, head for the door. Do likewise if he talks about becoming sexual after 15 minutes, or attempts to corral you into a relationship. If you feel truly threatened, explain the situation to the cafe manager and ask him or her to walk you to your car.

5. Call for backup, Part 2. I was enjoying a second date at a restaurant when my companion took a call during dinner. I was pretty sure I knew what was going on.

I’m just fine, she told the caller, then stowed the phone with an apologetic smile.

What would your friend have done if you hadn’t picked up? I asked her.

She had instructions to call the police, she replied.

Good tip. Smart woman.

6. Ask the right questions. Certain queries can reveal a lot of info in a short amount of time about a person you’ve just met. You might ask, for example, if your date has close friends. A yes indicates he or she is capable of connecting with others; a no suggests a lack of intimacy skills.

7. Be safe at home. As I learned the hard way with my would-be Glenn Close, it’s unwise to welcome anyone into your abode unless you know them well. If you’re unsure, consider asking another couple to join you.

My current girlfriend (whom I met online. by the way) invited me into her home after only our second date. I accepted, thanking her for her trust, but later mentioned that she could have been putting herself at risk.

We all want to believe the best about people, but a date you don’t really know deserves only a modicum of trust. So rather than rolling the dice when it comes to your personal safety, try following the steps above. Who knows? They might even be a shortcut to finding the right person out there.

Note: Dating services’ official rules for dating online are located under their websites’ terms of use. They suggest appropriate behavior, but screening is minimal — so I strongly urge you to use the tips above to create your own safety zone. Keep in mind that you can block any other member if you ever start to feel that safety is an issue.

Is Online Dating Really For You?

A big question that a lot of people ask is whether or not online dating is really the best option. To be honest, that s actually a pretty difficult question for us to answer since the answer can be different for everyone. However, we want to share with you our opinion on this question from what we have seen and experienced during our time in the industry.

First of all, years ago many people looked at dating sites as being the very last resort for a desperate single trying to find love. That idea has changed dramatically over the past several years and for many online dating is actually the first place the go to when wanting to find a new relationship. The reason why is actually very simple it has proven to work! Millions around the world have found their significant other by using and online dating site.

Below you can see the statistics done by a research study on online dating and the numbers behond it.

  • Number of singles in the US 54,250,000.
  • Total number in the US who have tried online dating 41,250,000.
  • Percent of marriages in the last year that began online 17%.
  • Percent of current committed relationships that started online 20%.
  • Annual revenue from the industry $1,249,000,000.

As you can see the numbers don t lie and these numbers are only based on people in the United States. It is now the #1 way of meeting new people and it has proven to work for millions of people.

The real truth though is that even though it has worked for many people out there, the only way to actually find out if it s the right option for you is to sign up with a site and try it out. You might find out that you absolutely love it and you meet someone early on. However, you may realize that you d simply rather go out to meet people and leave the online stuff to other people.

Either way it really doens t hurt at all to give it a try. At most dating sites they allow you to sign up for free and even search for potential matches. If you are really ready to go full steam with it then we suggest signing up with one of our recommended services because these are without a doubt the places that will give you the best shot of meeting the right person for you.

Other than that all we can say is good luck with whatever you choose to do and have fun with it. Remember, relationships are meant to bring you enjoyment!

Drug Expiration Dates – Are Expired Drugs Still Safe to Take? #dating #e

    #date side

Drug Expiration Dates – Are They Still Safe to Take?

Patients often have questions about drug expiration dates: Can they take a medication if it has reached the drug expiration date? Are there recommendations about the best way to store medications? Are there certain drugs that should never be used past their expiration date? For many patients, these questions arise because medications can be expensive, and it is costly to frequently replace expired but unused medications.

What does an expiration date mean?

The expiration date is the final day that the manufacturer guarantees the full potency and safety of a medication. Drug expiration dates exist on most medication labels, including prescription, over-the-counter (OTC) and dietary (herbal) supplements. U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturers are required by law to place expiration dates on prescription products prior to marketing. For legal and liability reasons, manufacturers will not make recommendations about the stability of drugs past the original expiration date. 1

The expiration date of a drug is estimated using stability testing under good manufacturing practices as determined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Drug products marketed in the US typically have an expiration that extends from 12 to 60 months from the time of manufacturer. Once the original container is opened, either by the patient or the health care provider who will dispense the drug, that original expiration date on the container can no longer be relied upon. 2 However, the actual shelf life of the drug may be much longer, as stability studies have shown. 3

At the pharmacy, “beyond-use” dates are often put on the prescription bottle label given to the patient. These dates often say “do not use after. ” or “discard after. ” and are required by the Board of Pharmacy in many states. These dates are typically one year from the date on the stock bottle. But why would these expiration dates be different? According to the manufacturer, the stability of a drug cannot be guaranteed once the original bottle is opened. Therefore, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the body that sets the standards for pharmaceutical quality in the U.S. recommends using “beyond use” dates. The “beyond use” date would never be later than the expiration date on the manufacturer’s bottle. 4

Do expired medications lose their potency?

The American Medical Association (AMA) concluded in 2001 that the actual shelf life of some products is longer than the labeled expiration date. The AMA stated the best evidence resides in the Shelf Life Extension Program (SLEP) undertaken by the FDA for the Department of Defense. 2 The original purpose of the SLEP program was twofold: to determine the actual shelf life of stockpiled military medications for future use, and to save government dollars. 5 Over 3000 lots, representing 122 different drug products, were assessed in the SLEP program. Based on stability data, expiration dates on 88 percent of the lots were extended beyond their original expiration date for an average of 66 months. Of these 2652 lots, only 18 percent were terminated due to failure. Examples of common drug products that were tested with no failures included amoxicillin. ciprofloxacin. diphenhydramine. and morphine sulfate injection. Drug expiration extension dates on these products ranged from 12 to 184 months.

These results suggest that many drug products may have extended shelf lives beyond their expiration date. However, it is difficult for any one consumer or health care provider to know which product could have an extended shelf life. The ability for a drug to have an extended shelf life would be dependent upon the actual drug ingredients, presence of preservatives, temperature fluctuations, light, humidity, and other storage conditions. Additionally, the drug lots tested in the SLEP program were kept in their original packaging. Once a drug is repackaged into another container, as often happens in the pharmacy, the shelf-life might decline. 3

Is it safe to take expired medications?

There are no specific reports linking expired medication use to human toxicity. In 1963, a report was published that tied degraded tetracycline use with a form of renal tubular damage known as “Fanconi Syndrome”; however, that formulation of tetracycline in no longer marketed in the U.S. 1

Solid dosage forms, such as tablets and capsules, appear to be most stable past their expiration date. Drugs that exist in solution or as a reconstituted suspension, and that require refrigeration (such as amoxicillin suspension ), may not have the required potency if used when outdated. Loss of potency can be a major health concern, especially when treating an infection with an antibiotic. Additionally, antibiotic resistance may occur with sub-potent medications. Drugs that exist in solution, especially injectable drugs, should be discarded if the product forms a precipitant or looks cloudy or discolored. 1

EpiPen autoinjectors should not be used after the expiration date as the epinephrine has been shown to lose its potency. 1 Epipen’s are used in life-threatening situations like anaphylaxis. so there is a major health threat with an expired EpiPen. 6 Expired medications that contain preservatives, such as ophthalmic (eye) drops, may be unsafe past their expiration date. 1 Outdated preservatives may allow bacterial growth in the solution.

Insulin is used to control blood sugar in diabetes and may be susceptible to degradation after its expiration date. Oral nitroglycerin (NTG). a medication used for angina (chest pain), may lose its potency quickly once the medication bottle is opened. Vaccines. biologicals or blood products could also be subject to quick degradation once the expiration date is reached. If a patient finds a medication is powdery or crumbling, has a strong smell, or has dried up (as in the case of or ointments or creams), these drugs should be discarded. 7

Proper storage of medications may help to extend their potency. The bathroom and medicine cabinet are not ideal places to store medications due to heat and humidity. Similarly, medications should not be left in a hot car. Medications remain most stable in dry, cool spaces away from light. Keep the prescription bottle caps tightly closed and always keep medications out of reach of children and pets.

    What is the bottom line?

Should patients use expired medications or not? If a medication is needed, and the patient is not able to replace the expired medication, there is no evidence that it is unsafe to take the medication in most cases. 1 However, if a medication is essential for a chronic and potentially life-threatening disease, for example, a heart condition, seizure, or life-threatening allergy, it is probably wise to get a new prescription once expired.

If an expired medication is for a minor health problem, for example, for a headache, hayfever, or mild pain, it may also be safe to take it, although drug potency might not be 100 percent. Research has shown many military stockpile medications retained 90 percent of their potency in their original stock bottle. 3 However, storage conditions of these medications were optimized for temperature and humidity, and probably do not mimic the typical storage conditions of the average household prescription bottle.

If an expired medication is taken, and the patient notices the drug has limited or no therapeutic effect, the medication should be replaced. If the medication is a biologic product, insulin, EpiPen, refrigerated liquid, eye drop, injectable, or looks like it is degraded or cloudy, it should be discarded and replaced. If questions still remain about how to handle an expired medication, it is wise to speak with your pharmacist or physician, who can offer additional information and advice. 1

    Online Dating Tips

It doesn t have to be if you play it right. All you need to do is be willing to adopt a little determination and learn some of the best ways to play to win.

Finding true love usually means having to sift through the pile. There is nothing wrong with communicating with several different people. That is what is so great about using online dating sites.

Many people give up far too quickly. They exhaust themselves going on date after date looking for that ONE that will make the difference in their love lives. Don t despair too soon and come up with a plan to do more of your sifting online and by digital means first. There are things you can do to avoid going on losing dates.

People look at online dating for several reasons.

    • Busy work and family life, too busy to randomly socialize on the weekends and evenings.
    • Perhaps you feel you have dated every referral and now have to broaden your search.
    • Maybe you have been single for awhile and just curious to see whats out there?

How far are you willing to go?

    Online Dating benefits

Searching for a date using online dating sites is fairly simple. It can also be anonymous while you are looking. That way no one needs to know you saw their profile and passed by. No hurt feelings.

It also allows you to see the hundreds of single people looking for someone just like you. Look at their pictures and read their profile. Whether you are looking for just a hook-up or love and marriage, you can find a match if you are willing to go through the process.

Some tips to writing an effective profile as well as a successful first date!

    Choose the Right Site

There are several types of sites and app s designed to attract a specific type of person.

For example, Match.com is for people who are more serious about finding a mate. Similar for eHarmony.com but these guys are more conservative and do not have a same-sex search.

There are sites for people seeking a specific religious faith. Other sites are more specific to sexual orientation. Some sites are kink, hookups, and easy casual dating.

Dating app s are similarly structured. With app s if you are looking for a hookup they can be particularly effective.

Do a little research upfront when choosing your dating service so you aren t disappointed.

    Are You Really That Age?

Most surveys show that both men and women lie about their age on dating websites. Does that mean you should too?

I guess that s up to you, just consider the purpose of your profile. If you are looking for love and a long term relationship when are you planning on telling the truth? Do you really want to start on a lie?

Is That You in the Photo?

Posting your one and only good picture might not be a good idea. Remember you have to live up to that image. When someone of interest meets you for the first time you only get that first impression once. If you don t really look like the image you posted it can set a bad mood for the rest of the date.

Pick photo s of yourself in different environments and they should be fairly recent. Avoid the me in the bathroom mirror image. You can use your phone to take a timer image of you. They even have little tripods. This way you can take several pic s of yourself and not look like you took them yourself!

Just Sex? Or Love Me Forever?

If you aren t really interested in a relationship then you might want to include that in your profile selection. Most online dating sites will allow a person to sort their search based on type of relationship.

Some people DO want a relationship but will date casually until they find someone suitable. In that even you decide who you want to date. If you want people to find you under casual encounters then go ahead and list there. The only problem is people who are serious about finding their true love will probably avoid you.

    Are You Being Too Picky?

    Is Online Dating Safe?

Online leds itself to a certain amount of anonymity. Because of this online dating sites can attract the scammers, liars and cheats. It can also attract the depraved and predators. Always be AWARE!

This is one of the biggest reasons why a paid online dating site is safer than a FREE online dating sites. Paid requires payment which most often is a credit card. This means the person is at the very least a real human being that can be traced. Free sites only need an email for verification.

For your own safety there are several precautions you can take to make it a little safer to date online.

Quite simply if you want to be found you must go where they are. Online dating sites are still growing in popularity. New sites are popping up and the serial and serious daters alike are growing in numbers to match.

How To Be Safe Dating Online

By Ramon Johnson. Gay Life Expert

Single and looking to date online? There are many options out there and potentially complications if you don t think about safety before meeting someone in person for the first time.

    Get To Know Him First
Ask as many detailed questions as possible before committing to meet. Sometimes the person on the other end of the computer may not be who they say they are. Watch for inconsistencies or strange behaviors.

If you see any warning signs or just have a bad feeling about the situation, trust your instincts and stop chatting.

Protect Your Identity and Personal Information
Never disclose personal information with a stranger online. It s not necessary to use a fake name, but be weary of giving out your address, place of work, or any other sensitive information.

    Leave a Trail
Stay on the side of caution by leaving a note at home detailing where you re traveling or text a good friend and let them know your exact location and how the date is going.

This may seem like overkill, but your safety is well worth a few seconds of time and effort.

    Get A Photo
No photo, no date. That s a good rule to live by in online dating. Ask him to email pictures other than the ones in his profile. Get as many details about the picture as possible, including the dates they was taken. Save the picture in an accessible folder on your computer.

    Listen For Details
You can tell a lot about a person by the way they communicate. Does something about the conversation make you uncomfortable?

Do you have a bad feeling? Before meeting in person, listen carefully during video chat sessions and phone conversation.

    Meet In A Public Place
Meet in a relaxed, but public place with as many people around as possible. Try a busy restaurant or cafe. Avoid meeting at his home or in dark, hidden places.

    Map An Exit
Know where your exits are and the most effective way to use them should you feel uncomfortable. As an extra precaution, visit the place you re supposed to meet before the date. After the date, take a route other than your normal path home just in case he follows you without your consent.

    Know His Sexual History
The best way to protect your body (remember HIV and Syphilis are still alive and well) is to know the status of your sexual partner. Not everyone tells the truth about their HIV status. Warning signs are refusal to answer questions about their status, ambiguity about the date of their last STD tests, ambiguity about the number of partners they ve been with, and willingness to have sex without a condom among others. Asking if he s clean is not enough. Protect yourself by assuming your partner is positive until proven otherwise.

5 Tips for Healthy, Safe Online Dating

Dating has changed dramatically over the past few decades. It’s gone from meeting prospective mates through family and friends to heading out to a bar or other gathering to visiting an online dating site. A report from the online dating industry estimates that nearly 25 million people worldwide accessed dating sites in April 2011.

This dramatic shift raises many questions. Is online dating a good way to meet a partner? Is it more effective than the old-fashioned ways? Is it safe and healthy? How do you know that the individuals you talk to are really who they say they are? Are there other risks or downsides?

While online dating clearly allows you more access to potential dating partners and lets you get an initial sense of someone before deciding to meet face to face, it has some drawbacks.

Reducing a person to a two-dimensional profile isn’t the same as actually meeting someone, and the large number of partner descriptions could lead you to objectify potential partners and possibly make you reluctant to commit to just one. And if you communicate online for a long time before meeting someone, you may have skewed expectations, according to an analysis of online dating in the journal Psychological Science in the Public Interest.

The mathematical algorithms used by dating sites cannot know how you and a potential partner will grow and mature over time or even how you will interact in the short-term. In other words, they are no more guaranteed to succeed than any other method of dating.

Still, they remain hugely popular in our busy world. If you decide to try online dating, here are a few tips for safe, healthy online dating.

    Don’t reveal contact information.
When you’re creating an online dating profile, be cautious about what information you disclose. Keep things pretty general and avoid personal contact details at all costs. Make sure you use a reputable site that allows you to keep private such details as your full name, phone number, address or personal email. Don’t reveal info on your dating profile that would allow someone to search for your social media accounts and stalk you through those.

    Be wary of red flags.
There are a few red flags you should be on the lookout for when you’re hearing from people. Try to avoid people who try to jump immediately into communication outside of the dating site, say they’re from the United States but are currently abroad, ask you for money, ask for your address under the guise of sending you gifts, make blatant and frequent grammar or spelling mistakes or send you links to third-party sites. If you notice any of these, block and report the person.

    Check it out.
Ask questions—and then ask them again in a different way. See if you get the same answers, even to simple questions like where someone grew up or where they work. It may not be as easy to gauge honesty online as it is in person, so be curious and pay attention. You can also check out someone with an online search, but don’t get a false sense of security if you don’t turn up a criminal record. You should always proceed with some caution, whether in an online or in-person setting.

9 Tips To Keep You Safe From The Scammers On Online Dating Sites

Recently, I started working with a private client who was emotionally involved with a scammer. She was in love with him and it’s no wonder why. He was attentive, offered up beautiful poetry and had found a way to identify with her deepest pain.

Yet when I shared why it sounded like she was becoming attached to someone who was less than honest, she was shocked and couldn’t believe this nice man she spoke with on a daily basis was about to take advantage of her.

So I told her, if you can’t break contact yet, at least stay open to the possibility that he is a scammer and if he asks you for money, promise me two things. First, you won’t give it to him and second, to call me so you have the support I know you would need to break contact with him.

Sure enough, within three days, he told her he was in trouble. He was about to close a deal but had a problem. The bank needed two more weeks to get all the financing together but he was going to lose the deal if he didn’t come up with the money by the end of the week.

He asked if she could possibly help him. His family had invested too, he said. This was his way of making her feel safe enough to go through with it, even though it wasn’t true.

Fortunately, she kept both promises she had made. We talked and I helped walk her through this. Let me tell you, it was not easy, but it would have been harder if she hadn’t had support from an objective source. A piece of her didn’t want to believe he was scamming her.

Why? Because he had captured her heart and she really wanted to help him. The scammer had spent hours setting her up for this by connecting with her through beautiful poems and lengthy conversations.

I hear this story over and over again. You may think, oh no, this would never happen to me. Let me assure you these women would have said the same thing. They are intelligent, successful women desperate to find the love of their life.

And this is what these men prey on. My client was lucky. Other women have not been so lucky and have lost thousands of their hard earned dollars to men they thought loved them.

I wrote today’s post because I don’t want to see another woman get taken by these con men again. There are nine warning signs worth heeding when you’re out there dating.

    1. They Feed Off The Clues In Your Profile

Don’t mention your income or where you work. You can say you’re a nurse or an executive but don’t mention where or how much you make.

Be aware of sounding needy and lonely in your profile. It makes you perfect prey for scammers looking to hook you into their scams.

    2. They Live Outside The US

These men will often say they live in metropolitan cities in the US but their work takes them elsewhere in the world. He tells you he’ll be coming back soon. and, of course, to wait for him because he can’t wait to meet you.

    3. Scamming Women Is Their Job

Most of these men are from developing countries. Jobs that pay well are scarce. Men there who are willing to con you have learned that in a couple of hours a day, they can easily communicate with women in the US, find their weak spots and make a fortune.

They speak with British accents, something American women easily fall for. It’s sounds romantic to us. These men know this and use it.

    4. What They Tell You About Themselves

Often, they will tell you they were born in England to a British mother and Italian father. They give themselves romantic names like Valentino and Antonio.

They will send you pictures of themselves and they’re usually drop dead gorgeous. Look closely at these pictures. They are often shots of handsome models posing in hats, sunglasses, holding products like beer or wine standing in front of tall buildings in urban landscapes, or posing by expensive cars.

Sometimes the men in the picture don’t even consistently look the same from shot to shot. The pictures they send are model shots easily found on the internet.

They might send you family pictures of children or grandchildren. Rarely are they in the picture with them. This is a huge tip off.

We love romance and these men use it by sending you the most beautiful poems you’ve ever heard. They get these from the internet as well.

    6. What They Talk About

As you chat for hours every day, scammers will find your weak spots. If you’ve lost a close member of your family, don’t be surprised if they tell you they have too.

They use holes in your heart to get you to trust them. We bond easily with people who have had similar experiences in their lives.

Or they will share news of the big business deal they are in. You’ll hear how they just need a little more money to finish it.

They’ll tell you this is all the money the bank will give them and how their family members have invested too. Then they’ll email you copies of contracts to make the deal seem legit and ask you for a loan just until the deal is signed. Once the deal is done, they’ll wire your money back to your bank account, they tell you.

Never, ever give them access to your financial resources!

Through this negotiation you hear a lot of I love you baby. I can’t wait to see you baby and As soon as this clears up, I’ll be there and we’ll be together .

    7. They Have Excuses For Never Being Able To See You

They want to see you so badly and even tell you they are making arrangements to travel in a month or two. Yet as the date arrives, suddenly they aren’t available and the date gets moved back over and over again. This is another HUGE TIP OFF you’re dealing with a scammer.

    8. You Can’t Find Any Record Of Them

Try searching on Google for your Valentino or Antonio. More than likely nothing will show up.

But if you tip them off that you’ve done this. within days you will see a listing pop up with their name and phone number.

They want you to believe they are real and the phone company made a huge mistake with their information.

A tip off here is they will list their job in the residential white pages, which few Americans do.

    9. How To Protect Yourself

Date men closer to home. Keep emails to no more than three or four. Move men to the phone and keep calls to a minimum of one to two, then meet ASAP.

If a man tells you he’ll be out of the country for a month or two, tell him to give you a call when he gets back.

Don’t get pulled into a fantasy relationship that will rip your heart in two and wipe you out financially if you’re not careful.

He will try and keep you in the communication process as long as he can with his romantic poems and sad stories of his life.

He wants you to feel guilty saying no to him. Don’t get pulled into this con. Move on and date other men.

If this has happened to you, you are not alone. Thousands of men and women get caught up in these scams.

Situations like this can leave you feeling emotionally devastated. You might find you have a hard time trusting men again.

There are lots of good men out there to date online. Remember the tips I’ve shared with you and if you’re not certain about someone, write to me or share your story with your friends. They are objective and can give you an honest opinion of what they believe is going on.

I hope you’ll share your thoughts in the comments.
