Tips to write a cover letter

    Avoid mundane subjects like work, politics, or anything negative. Be in control of the conversation, but don’t be controlling. Don’t let yourself slip into interview type questions, like “Where are you from?” or “What are you doing here?” Try to tap into your slightly dangerous, but still controlled, side, and feed off that energy.

    • If she brings up subjects that you think might steer the conversation down the wrong path, gently push the conversation in another direction. Saying something that has something to do with the topic, but is funny, light, and might bring a change of topic.
    • If she keeps coming back to the subjects you think are leading the conversation astray, you have two options:
      • Feed off of the energy of that topic, since she seems to want to talk about it.
      • Find an elegant, respectful way to leave the conversation, and instead focus on someone else. A simple “It was nice talking to you” should do the trick.

    Move past obstacles with grace. Many women will say they have a boyfriend if they don’t have enough attraction for you yet. At the same time, many women who say they have a boyfriend actually have one, so you’ve reached an obstacle. Don’t fret, though, because an obstacle is made to be overcome. You’ll move past it with grace.

    • If a woman says “I have a boyfriend, I’d prefer it if you didn’t talk to me,” just smile, tell her it was nice talking to her, and move on to another candidate. Sometimes life gives you bad lemons.
    • If a woman says “I have a boyfriend,” and leaves it at that, you can say: “That’s fine, I respect that. Do you mind if we keep chatting?” If she says yes, keep on working. You’re making lemonade out of lemons.
    • Don’t assume that you’ll be able to convince a woman in a relationship or marriage to part with her number. Maybe you don’t even want to be that guy. If a girl mentions her boyfriend, you probably want to start looking elsewhere unless your dying wish is to get her number.

    Be outcome-independent. Prime yourself not to care whether you get her attraction or not. If she’s attracted to you, that’s a bonus; if not, you’ll move on to another interesting girl.

    • If you tell yourself that you need her attraction because your ego can’t take rejection, you’ll be sorely hurt, over and over again, because you will be rejected at some point.     We re putting together some research for some upcoming BYOT policy content, and in the course of doing so found many existing policies enlightening.

    For starters, it is clear that some districts were more open-minded entering their BYOT programs than others. Many policies (not included below) were really more of a set of rules and consequences for breaking the rules than they were a supporting framework for teachers and students.

    In the end, every situation is different. There is no single right way to implement a BYOT program, so we ve included 11 widely varying policy styles below, with each authoring school or district named inline.

    Bowling Green High School“Bring Your Own Technology” (B.Y.O.T.)

    Responsible Use Guidelines

    Bowling Green High School uses instructional technology as one way of enhancing our mission to teach the skills, knowledge and behaviors students will need as responsible citizens in the global community. Students learn collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking in a variety of ways throughout the school day. In an effort to increase access to those 21 st Century skills, BGHS will allow personal devices on our guest network and school grounds for students who follow the responsibilities stated in the Acceptable Use Policy and the attached guidelines regarding B.Y.O.T.

    Bowling Green High School strives to provide appropriate and adequate technology to support instructional purposes. The use of personal devices by students is optional, and students who do not participate in B.Y.O.T. will not be penalized and alternate modes of participation will be available.

    An important component of B.Y.O.T will be education about appropriate online behaviors. We will review cyber-safety rules with students frequently throughout the course of the school year and will offer reminders and reinforcement about safe online behaviors. In addition to the rules outlined in these guidelines, students will be expected to comply with all class and school rules while using personal devices. The use of technology is not a necessity but a privilege. When abused, privileges will be taken away.

    For the purpose of this program, the word “devices” will include: laptops, netbooks, cell phones, smart phones, IPods, IPads, tablets, and eReaders. Please note that Nintendo DS (and/or other gaming devices with internet access) is not permissible at this time.

    • Students and parents/guardians participating in B.Y.O.T. must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, Acceptable Use Policy and all Board Policies, particularly Internet Acceptable Use.
    • Each teacher has the discretion to allow and regulate the use of personal devices in the classroom and on specific projects.
    • Approved devices must be in silent mode while on school campus, unless otherwise allowed by a teacher. Headphones may be used with teacher permission.
    • Devices may not be used to cheat on assignments, quizzes, or tests or for non-instructional purposes (such as making personal phone calls and text messaging).
    • Students may not use devices to record, transmit, or post photographic images or video of a person or persons on campus during school hours or during school activities, unless otherwise allowed by a teacher.
    • Devices may only be used to access computer files on internet sites which are relevant to the classroom curriculum.

    Students and Parents/Guardians acknowledge that:

    • The school’s network filters will be applied to a device’s connection to the internet and any attempt to bypass the network filters is prohibited.
    • Students are prohibited from:Bowling Green High School is authorized to collect and examine any device that is suspected of causing technology problems or was the source of an attack or virus infection.
      • Bringing a device on premises that infects the network with a virus, Trojan, or program designed to damage, alter, destroy, or provide access to unauthorized data or information.
      • Processing or accessing information on school property related to “hacking.” Altering or bypassing network security policies.
    • Students and parents should be aware that devices are subject to search by school administrators if the device is suspected of a violation of the student code of conduct. If the device is locked or password protected the student will be required to unlock the device at the request of a school administrator.
    • Printing from personal devices will not be possible at school.
    • Personal devices must be charged prior to school and run on battery power while at school. Charging of devices will not be permitted at BGHS.

    Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Devices:

    Each user is responsible for his/her own device and should use it responsibly and appropriately. Bowling Green High School takes no responsibility for stolen, lost, or damaged devices, including lost or corrupted data on those devices. While school employees will help students identify how to keep personal devices secure, students will have the final responsibility for securing their personal devices. Please check with your homeowner’s policy regarding coverage of personal electronic devices, as many insurance policies can cover loss or damage.

    Bowling Green High School is not responsible for any possible device charges to your account that might be incurred during approved school-related use.

    Users should strive to maintain appropriate bandwidth for school-related work and communications. All users will use the “BGHS Guest” wireless network to access the internet. BGHS does not guarantee connectivity or the quality of the connection with personal devices. Bowling Green ISD Technology department is not responsible for maintaining or troubleshooting student tech devices.

    I understand and will abide by the above policy and guidelines. I further understand that any violation is unethical and may result in the loss of my network and/or device privileges as well as other disciplinary action. These claims include but not limited to, claims to recover money damages for personal injuries ( Injuries ) allegedly suffered as a result of a boiler explosion based on theories of strict liability, negligent design, respondeat superior and loss of consortium, and all claims asserted or which could have been asserted in the Lawsuit, which claims AS denies; and

    WHEREAS, the parties wish to resolve and settle all of their past, present and any future claims, disputes and controversies, including but not limited to those relating to the subject matter of the Lawsuit;

    NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual promises set forth in this Agreement and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, the parties agree as follows:

    AGREEMENT

    1. Recitals. The foregoing Recitals are incorporated into and constitute a part of this Agreement.
    2. No Admission of Liability. This Agreement is entered into as an expedient and cost-effective alternative to costly litigation. The parties make no admission of liability, express or implied, by entering into this Agreement.
    3. AS s Payment to the Rushs. AS, in exchange for the releases set forth below, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, agree to pay the Rushs the total amount of Seven Hundred Thousand Dollars ($700,000.00) payable within 21 days from the execution of this Agreement by the Parties.

    Releases.

      1. The Rushs Release of AS. For and in consideration of the foregoing and other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which if hereby acknowledged, and upon the full execution of this Agreement, Richard Rush on behalf of himself, his agents, heirs, administrators, attorneys, successors and assigns, and Jane Rush on behalf of herself, her agents, heirs, administrators, attorneys, successors and assigns, do hereby dismiss, release and hold harmless AS, its stockholders, officers, directors, employees, agents, insurers, attorneys, predecessors, successors and assigns, of any from any and all matters, debts, dues, sums of money, covenants, controversies, agreements, promises, trespasses, damages, losses, expenses, costs, liabilities, obligations, claims, demands, grievances, suits, causes of action, complaints, judgments, decrees, executions of whatever kind, in law or in equity, absolute, contingent, likely or unlikely, known or unknown, which have existed from the beginning of time to the date of this Agreement, including but not limited to all claims asserted or which could have been asserted in the Lawsuit and any and all claims arising out of the Injuries, the boiler explosion and/or the Lawsuit.
      2. Extent of Release. The release set forth in this Section 4 is intended to have the broadest possible application and includes, but is not limited to, any tort, contract, common law, constitutional or other statutory claims arising out of any federal, state or local laws. The release set forth herein shall apply to the present and future officers, directors, stockholders, attorneys, agents, insurers, servants, members, representatives, employees, subsidiaries, subcontractors, contractors, affiliates, partners, family members, predecessors, and successors in interest and assigns of the parties.

    Costs

    1. Costs and Expenses. The parties shall be responsible for their respective attorneys fees and costs and expenses incurred in this matter.
    2. Controlling Law. This Agreement shall be governed by, and construed and enforced in accordance with, the laws of the State of Maryland. The parties hereby irrevocably consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Maryland, for any and all Claims arising out of this Agreement over which that court has subject matter jurisdiction.
    3. Amendments. This Agreement cannot be altered or otherwise amended except by written instrument signed by all of the parties hereto.
    4. Entire Agreement. The parties acknowledge and agree that this Agreement constitutes the full, complete, and entire agreement or the parties and that there are no other representations, covenants, warranties, or other agreements binding of the parties that are not expressly set forth herein.
    5. Rule of Construction. The parties acknowledge and agree that they have each had the opportunity to have this Agreement reviewed by counsel of their choosing. Therefore, the normal rule that ambiguities are construed against the drafter shall not apply in connection with the interpretation and construction of this Agreement.
    6. Validity of Agreement. The parties represent and agree that the person executing this Agreement on behalf of AS has the full and complete permission and authority of the entity for which he is executing this Agreement, and have the full right and authority to commit and fully bind themselves, their representatives, agents, principals, predecessors, successors, and privies according to the provisions hereof. This Agreement is a legally valid, binding and enforceable obligation of the parties in accordance with its terms.
    7. Counterpart Signatures. This Agreement may be executed in one or more counterparts, including by facsimile, each of which shall be deemed an original and all of which together shall constitute one and the same instrument.
