2017 Summer Camp

2017 is Kitchen Kid s 9th summer of delicious fun!

Our signature cooking camps provide hands-on culinary experiences packed with excitement and kitchen adventures. Young chefs expand their palates, reinforce academic and social skills, and learn kitchen safety and culinary fundamentals all while making new friends and enjoying great food!

What Makes Kitchen Kid Culinary Camps Unique:

  • Weekly Farmers Market Challenge (Santa Monica / Hermosa Beach) or Mystery Basket Challenge (Beverly Hills / Pasadena / Redondo Beach): Kitchen Kids learn about seasonal ingredients and farm to fork eating. In the Farmers Market Challenge, young chefs head to the market in small groups led by a culinary coach to shop for the freshest produce available. In our Mystery Box Challenge, our culinary coaches lead a discussion and delicious tasting of in-season fruits and vegetables. Afterwards, in all camps, chefs enjoy a secret ingredient cook-off!
  • Around the Table Fridays: Parents are invited to join us for an incredible tasting at the end of the camp session on Fridays. Witness and taste your child’s delicious accomplishments first hand! The exact dates and times will be in your registration confirmation for each session.

Here are a few answers to the most frequently asked questions!

  • Our camps are fully hands-on culinary experiences with maximum class size of 15-20 chefs (depending on facility) and a culinary coach to kid-chef ratio averaging 1:5.
  • Camps are taught by Kitchen Kid culinary coaches – professionally trained chefs and classroom educators.
  • Each session includes all the fresh ingredients, recipe book, and a Kitchen Kid apron.

  • Campers must wear closed-toe shoes (safety first!) and hair must be tied back while preparing food.
  • Please be aware that we do not have before or after care available for campers. Plan to drop-off no earlier than 15 minutes before camp start time and pick-up no later than 15 minutes after the conclusion of camp.
  • Though we do not cook with nuts, we can t guarantee that the facility is 100% nut-free. We are generally able to accommodate campers with common allergies and dietary restrictions. Please contact us with specific questions or concerns.

School Psychology Careers

Salary of school psychologist

What Is School Psychology?

A school psychologist is a type of psychologist that works within the educational system to help children with emotional, social and academic issues. The goal of school psychology is to collaborate with parents, teachers, and students to promote a healthy learning environment that focuses on the needs of children.

School psychology is still a relatively young profession. The National Association of School Psychology (NASP) was established and formally recognized as a doctoral specialty by the American Psychological Association (APA) in 1968.

In 2002, U.S. News and World Report named school psychology one of the top ten hot professions. Many school psychologists in the field are retiring, creating a demand for qualified school psychologists.

What Do School Psychologists Do?

School psychologists work with individual students and groups of students to deal with behavioral problems, academic difficulties, disabilities and other issues. They also work with teachers and parents to develop techniques to deal with home and classroom behavior. Other tasks include training students, parents and teachers about how to manage crisis situations and substance abuse problems.

According to the National Association of School Psychology (NASP), there are five major areas where school psychologists provide services: (1) consultation, (2) evaluation, (3) intervention, (4) prevention, and (5) research and planning. School psychologists also act as educators by helping others understand more about child development, behavioral problems and behavior management techniques.

Salary of school psychologist

While most work in elementary and secondary schools, there are a number of different areas where school psychologists might find employment. Private clinics, hospitals, state agencies, and universities are possible sectors of employment. Some school psychologists also go into private practice and serve as consultants, especially those with a doctoral degree in school psychology.

How Much Do School Psychologists Typically Earn?

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Department of Labor, the average salary for a psychologist working in an elementary or secondary school is $58,360. Reschly and Wilson (1995) found that the average salary for a school psychologist in a faculty position was $57,000. The average salary for a practicing school psychologist with a doctoral degree was $51,000, with master s-level professionals earning an average of $40,000 per year.

What Type of Degree Do School Psychologists Need?

Two or three years of graduate school is the minimum level of training required by most states. However, each state has different requirements for school psychologists. Eighteen states now require national certification, in which students complete an internship in school psychology. Before you choose a school psychology graduate program, be sure to check the specific licensing requirements in your state.

What Are the Pros and Cons of a Career in School Psychology?

Benefits of a Career in School Psychology

  • School psychologists are able to help students succeed.
  • Since most school psychologist work in elementary to secondary school settings, they enjoy a predictable schedule.
  • School psychologists are able to collaborate with a variety of community members, including counselors, teachers, parents, and students.

Downsides of a Career in School Psychology

  • Difficulties with students or parents can lead to high stress levels.
  • Work-related stress and frustration can lead to burnout.
  • School psychologists often face hectic schedules and an overload of clients.

How to Become a Pastor #school #to #become #a #pastor

How to Become a Pastor

Many Protestant and non-denominational Christian churches hire pastors to lead their congregations. While a large part of a pastor’s duties is to lead church services and write and deliver sermons, they have many other duties as well. Pastors, sometimes known as ministers, preside over religious ceremonies like weddings and baptisms and visit with members of the congregation who need guidance and help. Pastors also plan for the future of their church by reaching out to potential new members, working with other community leaders, and attending to the business of the church.

What kind of training is required to become a pastor?

Christian pastors must have a deep familiarity with the Bible and the doctrine of their denomination, if applicable. Each denomination has its own process for training and ordaining pastors and ministers, but in general, one must first be a member in good standing of one’s congregation to begin the process. Depending on the denomination and individual congregation, pastors may have to meet other requirements as well. Some congregations do not ordain women, people who are divorced, or openly gay or lesbian people, for example.

Those who are interested in becoming pastors typically start by expressing their interest to the pastor of their church. Congregations may have committees that oversee the ordination of pastors and ministers. Prospective pastors will meet with this committee and the committee will review the person’s background and qualifications to determine whether or not he or she will be a good fit for the position. In some churches, this is called the inquiry phase, and if the committee decides the person can move forward in the process, he or she will become a candidate or aspirant.

To prepare for a position as a pastor or minister, candidates may be required to take college courses or complete a degree program. Some denominations ordain only those who have master’s degrees from a divinity school. These denominations may maintain affiliations with specific divinity schools to ensure that candidates receive an education that fits with the tradition and doctrine of the church. If a denomination or church does not require candidates to attend an affiliated divinity school, it may instead require candidates to attend a divinity school that has been accredited by an agency like the Association of Theological Schools.

Divinity schools and seminaries offer programs that lead to a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree, which is considered the professional degree for pastors in the United States. Students in MDiv programs study the religious texts and history of their faith. They also learn basic skills in the language or languages in which their texts were originally written, such as New Testament Greek and Biblical Hebrew. MDiv programs also focus on the art and practice of ministry, and students learn about worship, preaching, pastoral care and counseling, and community leadership. Field experience is another focus of MDiv programs, so students spend time with religious communities in their area or in other parts of the world.

Beyond earning a degree, pastoral candidates may also be required by their church to complete an internship, undergo financial planning, take seminars, pass an examination, and/or work with a mentor.

Are there any certification or licensure requirements?

There are no government certification or licensure requirements for pastors, but some denominations refer to to pastor or minister ordination as certification or licensure. To become certified or licensed by a church, one must meet that church’s education and experience requirements.

How long does it take to become a pastor?

The requirements for ordination vary by denomination and by individual church, so it may take longer to become a pastor in one church as compared to another. It generally takes three years to complete an MDiv program, and it may take two or three years to complete the candidacy process in some churches.

What does a pastor earn?

According to Salary.com, the median salary for pastors and ministers in the United States is $87,180, and the median salary for associate pastors is $63,051.

Pastors are often provided housing by their congregation, and this form of compensation can impact the salary one receives.

What are the job prospects?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of clergy in the United States will grow 10 percent between 2012 and 2020, about as fast as the average growth for all occupations.

Other sources, however, report a difficult job market for pastors and ministers due to the overall economic climate. Churches depend on donations from their congregation to operate, and in difficult economic times, giving decreases, reducing the ability of churches to hire new pastors.

What are the long term career prospects for pastors?

New pastors and ministers may start out working in associate roles working with youth or other groups within a church. With some experience, associates can be hired as full pastors of established congregations.

Some non-denominational pastors open their own churches. These pastors may also attempt to reach potential members by writing books or creating other media. Pastors of established churches can also reach out to people in their community to grow membership in their congregation.

How can I find a job as a pastor?

Many churches looking for pastors post openings on job websites, but many rely on networking to find a suitable pastor or minister as well. You should attempt to build a network of contacts within your church community and connect with pastors of your faith in other areas as well.

You can improve your job prospects by gaining experience working in associate pastor roles. Associate pastors work under the guidance of pastors and ministers. You may lead religious services, run educational programs, perform outreach, or work with groups of people in your church community.

How can I learn more about becoming a pastor?

You can learn more about becoming a pastor by speaking to your own pastor and with other pastors who share your faith. They can tell you what sort of education they pursued and what kinds of experiences they took part in on their way to their current position.

Optometry School Cost

High Price: Private Optometry Schools Run $15,000-$29,1000 a Year

Optometrists (eye doctors) examine, diagnose and treat the eye through medication, therapy or surgery. After receiving a Doctor of Optometry degree, a variety of specialized fields are available from geriatrics to occupational vision or pediatrics, according to the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry.

Only eighteen universities in the US have accredited optometry schools so competition is tough. Along with high undergraduate scores, a personal essay and letters of recommendation, applicants must take the Optometrist Admission Test to be considered for the four-year program in one of the public or private universities.

Typical costs:

  • Public optometry school tuition. sponsored in part by state tax dollars, runs $10,700-$20,200 for residents annually or about $42,000-$74,800 for the complete program. Non residents pay around $22,400-$43,400 per year, totaling $89,600-$173,600 .
  • Indiana University School of Optometry in-state tuition costs about $16,000 per year or $64,000 to reach the degree. Non residents are charged about $30,560 per year or $122,240 for four years.
  • At the top of the scale, the University of California-Berkeley charges about $20,200 per year for residents or $80,800 for the complete program, while non residents pay around $32,500 annually or nearly $130,000 during the four years.
  • Optometry school tuition and fees at private universities run $15,000-$29,100 per year or $60,000-$116,400 for the four-year program for residents and $20,000-$29,100 per year or $80,000$116,400 for a degree for non residents. Some private schools have only one fee schedule for residents and non residents.
  • Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee sits at the economical end of the scale for residents at about $15,500 per year, totaling around $62,000. Non residents pay around $20,450 per year or $81,800 for the four-year program.
  • Western University of Health Sciences[1 ] charges $27,700 per year or $110,800 for the complete Doctor of Optometry (OD) program, while tuition at Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University runs $29,500 per year or $118,000 for four years.

Additional costs:

  • Books purchased during optometry school become a personal reference library at the start of a student’s career. Supplies include equipment needed to examine, diagnose and treat eyes. Together, books and supplies run about $2,300-$6,280 per year during the first two years, around $1,060-$1,600 the third year and dropping to near $400-$1,780 the fourth — totaling $6,000-$16,000 overall, depending on the school.
  • Students also take the national board during their second, third and fourth years at about $625 each year or $1,875 overall. License and certification fees in the fourth year are around $400 .
  • Taken in several sections, the complete National Board of Examiners in Optometry exams[2 ] will cost about $3,600 .

Discounts:

  • The American Academy of Optometry maintains online information on scholarships, awards and grants for optometry students.
  • Many schools offer programs that allow students from out of the area to either enter as a resident or become a resident during their studies. Check the individual school’s admissions requirements for complete information.
  • Before applying for most awards or loans, a Free Application for Federal Student Aid[3 ] (FAFSA) must usually be completed.

Shopping for optometry school:

  • The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry maintains a list of the 18 US and one Puerto Rican optometry schools.

Important note for site admins: If you are the administrator of this website note that your access has been limited because you broke one of the Wordfence advanced blocking rules. The reason your access was limited is: “Access from your area has been temporarily limited for security reasons.”.

If this is a false positive, meaning that your access to your own site has been limited incorrectly, then you will need to regain access to your site, go to the Wordfence “options” page, go to the section for Rate Limiting Rules and disable the rule that caused you to be blocked. For example, if you were blocked because it was detected that you are a fake Google crawler, then disable the rule that blocks fake google crawlers. Or if you were blocked because you were accessing your site too quickly, then increase the number of accesses allowed per minute.

If you’re still having trouble, then simply disable the Wordfence advanced blocking and you will still benefit from the other security features that Wordfence provides.

If you are a site administrator and have been accidentally locked out, please enter your email in the box below and click “Send”. If the email address you enter belongs to a known site administrator or someone set to receive Wordfence alerts, we will send you an email to help you regain access. Please read this FAQ entry if this does not work.
