What She Really Wants You To Text

It s a given that dating is coordinated through text nowadays. That s just the way it is and there ll probably be no going back to the days of phone calls and machine messages. Maybe it s better that way, but one of the unfortunate perils of texting, though, is that most people aren t great at written communication, and it s much harder to express nuances of tone in short, typed-out messages than it is in a voice-to-voice conversation. We haven t encountered much advice on how to get your point across through text, so we asked online-dating expert Erika Ettin of A Little Nudge for her suggestions.

Before the First Date

The days of calling a woman and asking her out on a date are a thing of the past. If you are one of the men who still makes the call, then I have a lot of respect for you. And if you re over 40, a phone call is still the most appropriate method. That said, texting does have its advantages: Rejection seems less painful, you can do it anytime and anywhere (even from the, ahem, toilet), and it doesn t take as much courage to ask someone out. I m not saying not to text someone to ask her out (though, if you re online dating, you ll be asking her out over email), but I am saying that the text should be clear, concise and, most importantly, nice. In addition, it s best to confirm a day before the date. Something like, Really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at 7 should do the trick. She ll be happy to see that you re on the ball.

Texting is also great if you re running late, can t find parking or can t find your date for some reason (let s just hope it s not because she looks nothing like her profile pictures).

What not to do at this stage: Cancel via text on the day of the date. If you have her phone number, have the courtesy to call.

After the First Date

My favorite use of the text after the first date is the thank you text. If you had a good time and want to see the person again, send a text saying something to the effect of, Thanks again for a fun time last night! What are other variations of this? The flirty thanks: Thanks again for a great time last night. Too bad we had to go to work today 😉 The suggesting-the-second-date thanks: Thanks again for a great time last night. I ll be sure to ask if you re allergic to seafood next time 🙂 If the feeling was mutual, it ll put a smile on her face to see your name pop up on her phone.

How soon do you follow up after a date, though? The advent of modern technology texting, Gchat and email has completely compressed the three-day rule. A survey performed by the company LoveGeist found that after a first date on a Saturday evening, most daters will get in touch by 11:48 a.m. on Monday with a call or text. Thus, 1.52 days is the average time spent waiting for a follow-up message. The three-day rule is now cut in half. I don t, however, recommend a first date on a Saturday night, especially a first online date. A weeknight or Sunday evening works well, and then if you want to see each other again, you can plan for the coveted Friday or Saturday night slot when you already know you have some chemistry. When it comes down to it, if you like someone, it s so easy to get in touch. By waiting the antiquated three days, it s already a foregone conclusion that you re probably just not that into the other person.

What not to do at this stage: Have a long, detailed conversation over text it s just too much.

Early on in an Exclusive Relationship

In the early stages of a relationship, texting can be the most fun. Here are a few examples:

A middle of the day flirt: Just thinking about how pretty you looked last night.

Good morning/Good night/Can t wait to see you: Good morning, sunshine!

One random, funny thing that happened: You won t believe what happened today. My boss s pants split, and he had to go home!

I miss you: Thinking about how I can t wait to see your face later.

In the beginning of a relationship. there are hormones flying, butterflies dancing and the possibility of a true connection. A good text can only heighten the excitement.

What not to do at this stage: Break up with someone via text. This is such a no-no, although Sex and the City fans would agree that it s better than a Post-it note.

When you finally make it into long-term relationship territory, don t let those cute texts fall by the wayside. Make sure between texting about what you re having for dinner tonight and whose turn it is to do the laundry, you throw in a sweet thinking about you now and then. It ll go a long way.

Happy dating in the world of technology!

Text Message Dating

Text messaging has become a popular method of communication in dating relationships. It is faster and easier to type a few abbreviated words than to have an actual verbal conversation. Text message dating is dating at your pace with less emotional risk. Unlike conversations that occur face-to-face or over the phone, text messaging allows you to say what you want to say while withholding intimacy.

Function

Text-message dating has come about as a result of the advancements in technology. Whether it is sent from a cell phone or BlackBerry, a text message is a quick and convenient way to get in touch with someone. It also allows you to be kept abreast of someone’s daily activities. The recipient of a message is often glad to get it because it means that someone was thinking about them.

Effects

Despite all the changes in dating, waiting for someone to contact you is still as frustrating as ever. However, text messaging allows you to replace nerve-wracking conversations and get right to the point. In times of disagreement, you can avoid verbal arguments by sending messages back and forth. Some people even tell the person they are dating things that are difficult to say such as “I cheated on you” or “It’s over.” Doing so prevents someone from having to witness and deal with the effects of such statements on the other person.

Considerations

Text messages replace phone calls more and more every day. Although communication may be more frequent with text messaging, the content is often trivial. Meaningful conversations typically do not take place via text message. In fact, many text messages are sent late at night, especially after having a few drinks. The purpose of these messages more often than not is to meet up with someone and have sex. Sadly, this becomes the basis of many relationships. A few texts may be sent during the week to stay in touch but that is just a prelude to the “Where are you?” text.

Significance

The rise of text-message dating has made the term “dating” extremely vague. There is no longer a standard answer to the question, “What is a date?” Are two people who communicate mostly by text messages and take a roll in the hay from time to time, dating? Does an impromptu, late-night text message resulting in a meeting constitute a date? Also, since the concept of dating is rather unclear, how do you know if you are exclusive? Since text-message dating requires a lot less time and commitment than traditional dating, dating more than one person or cheating on your partner is an option that is much more readily available.

Benefits

Sending text messages makes people less inhibited than they would be if they communicated the same message verbally. Text message dating also allows you time to think about your response before informing the other person of it. Also, to get out of answering or dealing with something, you can deny that you received the message at all. When running late to meet someone, sending a text message is a good idea to prevent a tiff upon your arrival. In addition, it can be hard finding meeting up with someone in a bar or club. However, you can tell someone exactly where to find you via text message and then begin your so-called date.

Relationship Rules: Text Messaging

At first, we scoffed at this short message service, famously known as SMS. This new fad of text messaging was too impersonal, too informal, too slow, and not long after, too popular to ignore any longer. What was once a quick way to pass on short messages (remember our old, boxy Nokia phones with selectable options like Lunch later? or Be home after work ?) has now become a forum for the infinite: Formal communication with our bosses, daring late-night messaging with that girl we met at spin class or even a quick hello to grandma, who also somehow has learned what predictive text is.

Especially concerning has been the role of SMS within the wide, wide walls of dating. Sure, we can make plans with our buddies or even avoid meetings with our coworkers. but when text messaging begins to dictate the finicky boundaries of love and lust, certain rules apply. A new sort of dialogue is beginning to emerge, so get it right before a text to her phone becomes a slap in the face.

The first date

She completes your sentences and you open up about your fear of flying. Things begin to spark, and your first night together is a success. If you were lucky enough to pass the first relationship test the dreaded first date then congratulations. Now, don t mess it up.

After parting ways from your first date, we once advised to give some time before calling her back and to be patient in making your second move. With the advent of text messaging this protocol has blurred, but don t be fooled.

The best usage of the post-first-date text is its perceived innocence. Acceptable messages would be: Hey, I had a great night with you. I can t wait to do it again, or, Just heard someone laugh exactly like that woman we sat next to the other night, except this time she was 60 and had a German accent. Little tidbits are reminders that you haven t lost sight of the time you spent together, but avoid formalities that should be settled in person.

Under no circumstances should a man plan his second date with a woman through text. Things like, Hey, can I pick you up at eight o clock on Tuesday for a follow-up? can be detrimental to an early couple s dynamic. Leave second date plans, or any follow-up plans for that matter, for the traditional phone conversations we all know and love though increasingly try to avoid.

The follow-up date(s)

You ve made it this far, so now it s time to focus. The worst downfalls in text communication come with people that you know well enough to speak with but not well enough to pick up the phone and chat with. This dangerous median between comfort and the unknown seems to be the best opportunity for text messaging to get that message across without seeming too intrusive. However, even when you re in the first stages of dating, certain rules still apply.

True-feeling texting: Maybe you had one too many at happy hour or just want to get your point across, but we all have a tendency to grab our phones and start thumbing at our keyboard when we want her to know exactly how we feel maybe we re head over heels in love and never felt like this before, or maybe you can t deal with the way she talks about her ex boyfriends.

We ve got a few more relationship rules that apply to text messaging.

The Rules Of Text Dating

With the fast paced mochaccino lifestyle many of us Brits enjoy, few of us
find the time to meet a girls, let alone have long-winded conversations on the phone in an attempt to co-erce them into a first date. Whereas once upon a time a man s weapons in romance were poetry and love letters, the modern man relies on the speed and efficiency of the SMS or text message. Unfortunately the text message world can be a minefield of mistakes and problems leaving you running for cover. Thankfully if you follow these rules of text dating, you ll be able to navigate the perils of SMS.

Stand out from the crowd

Too many people buy into the so called importance of playing it cool , treating them mean to keep them keen , and a whole bunch of other cool buzzwords that only end with messing things up. It s more important to be different from everyone else. If you meet someone you like whilst out on a night, one of the key rules of text dating is to text them straight away. Initially, let them think you re keen. We ll turn it around a bit later once their guard is down.

An eye for an eye

Keep your messages on an even one-for-one basis. If you send a text and don t get a reply for a while, don t panic. People have lives and other things to do; how bad would you feel stressing over them not replying to a text message only to find out they ve been helping their sickly mother in bed for the past three days? Give them time to reply. If you find you re receiving more texts than you re sending out, you know things are going well.

Use nicknames

One way to really begin building a connection with someone is to give them a new nickname. This then becomes an ideal way to begin your texts (and makes it a lot easier when you have too many girls and can t remember all their names). Stay away from lovey-dovey names like Honey and Cupcake. Think more along the lines of playful nicknames, for example: Geek, Shortie, Trouble or Pain-in-the-Butt.

Get to the point

Avoid sending text messages that don t achieve something specific. You should be aiming to arrange a meet up as soon as possible. Otherwise, you run the risk of just being a text buddy. Try making suggestions that actually contain a purpose for the meet up. Rather than simply saying let s meet up try there s a place I ve been dying to visit, all I need is someone cool to come with me, seeing as how my friends are all busy, I reckon you would be a good backup .

Abstract

Hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy (HPOA) is not an uncommon paraneoplastic syndrome that is frequently associated with lung cancer. A 54-year-old male patient with lung adenocarcinoma underwent bone scintigraphy and fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanning for initial staging. Bone scintigraphy revealed increased periosteal activity in lower extremities. FDG PET/CT revealed hypermetabolic right lung mass, mediastinal lymph nodes, and mildly increased periosteal FDG uptake in both femurs and tibias. The findings in lower extremities on bone scan and FDG PET/CT were interpreted as HPOA.

Keywords: Adenocarcinoma of lung, hypertrophic osteoarthropathy, periostitis, positron emission tomography/computed tomography

INTRODUCTION

Hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy (HPOA) is often associated with lung carcinoma, but other intrathoracic tumors or nonmalignant diseases including hepatopulmonary syndrome of advanced liver or cirrhosis, cyanotic heart diseases may also associated with this clinical condition.[1 ,2 ] It is distinguished by painful, swollen joints, digital clubbing, and periostitis.[3 ,4 ] Radiologically, periostitis presents as new bone formation and appearance of a smooth layer to the bones. Bone scintigraphy is a highly sensitive method for the diagnosis of HPOA and the typical scintigraphic presentation is a diffuse, symmetrically increased uptake in the diaphysis and metaphysis of tubular bones, with a distinctive double stripe or parallel track sign.[5 ] In addition, diffuse moderately increased fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in the periostea of long bones had been reported.[6 ,7 ]

Here, we present a lung cancer patient who demonstrated findings consistent with HPOA on bone scintigraphy and FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging.

CASE REPORT

A 54-year-old male patient complaining of cough, generalized bone pain and weakness was referred to our hospital. He was smoking for 30 years/1 packet/day. On physical examination, he had Grade I clubbing of fingers and toes. Complete blood count and biochemistry tests were normal except mild anemia. CT of the thorax demonstrated 5 cm 6 cm mass lesion with speculated margins in the upper lobe of the right lung. In addition, there was mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Bronchoscopy and biopsy were done, and histopathology revealed adenocarcinoma of the lung. The patient was referred nuclear medicine department for bone scintigraphy and 18F-FDG PET/CT. Bone scintigraphy was performed 3 h after intravenous injection of 20 mCi (740 MBq) methylene diphosphonate (MDP). It demonstrated no osseous metastases but revealed increased periosteal activity in the long bones of the legs corresponding to hypertrophic osteoarthropathy [ Figure 1 ]. PET/CT images were acquired 60 min after intravenous injection of 7 mCi (259 MBq) FDG an integrated PET/CT camera. Maximum intensity projection and transaxial images showed increased FDG accumulation in the primary tumor (SUVmax: 17), mediastinal lymph nodes (SUVmax: 3.3) and mild, symmetrical periosteal FDG uptake along both femuri and tibias (SUVmax: 2.4 3.0) [ Figure 2 ].

What do you think ?

For those saying this is FAKE. This exact story happened to my friend George. The cat went missing, and later they found a dead cat laying on the street. My friend asked his mom to come and identify the cat (it had some very specific markings) and after inspection mom burst into tears: “It’s him,” she said. George put the body in some plastic bag, spent hours searching for a spot to bury it and digging the hole himself. After a few days his mom calls him and says “the cat just came home.” We laughed so hard after hearing this story. He buried some random stray cat! (don’t get me wrong, I feel really bad for that cat too:/)

I agree with you, Hans. I’m afraid nowadays people are so hungry for attention (an upvote, a thumb up) they simply share everything and anything with the entire world. I like the internet to share and sicover stories that are interesting, heartwarming, and/or that raise awareness, you know, things that matter and that are REAL. Nevertheless, having to check everything all the time because facts don’t make sense or are a bit twisted, or seeing a lot of stories that aren’t relevant at all it’s a real bummer.
